I bought one of my depressed liberal friends who's going through hard financial & employment times this:

..to remind him that even in bad times it's good to have a laugh.

Got my mom a bottle of Baileys for her coffee and a couple bottles of wine.

The Baileys started off as a random gift a few years ago, now it's the first thing she puts on her christmas list each year lol.

Everyone loves fancy food gifts, I got one for almost anyone I bought gifts for who I don't spend a lot of money on! Also works great as part of a combo with something else, this plus a book or DVD.
Fuck, there are no Trader Joe's in New York...goddamn it.

Dads are easy, at least my dad is. Something to do with socks, or something to do with sports. Bam. He's good.

When I'm rich, I'll get him something huge and nice, but for now, he's easy to shop for.

Instead of making a new thread, my friend who I've known for 7 years is getting a Wii for xmas. She's a chick and kind of a girly chick. I'm not sure what kinda wii game to get her. Any suggestions?

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Does she normally play games? I'm trying to think between a good game that'd appeal to girls alike or viva pinata.

If nothing else, check this list out: [Link removed]
    - I was thinking Kirby's Epic Yarn?

Kirby's Epic Yarn is a great choice imo. You could also get her Mone of the wii sports games that it doesn't come with or something.

Still not sure about dad but getting my gf some perfume she likes and a book and a cd. Meh.

Are they artistic? Do they like eclectic things? Wacky things? Or are they terribly boring and uninteresting, yet, for one reason or another, still your friend? There's a large amount of Wii games which apply to all audiences, and some that ooze style which may appeal to someone more so if they appreciate that; I could probably make more fine-tuned recommendations if you shared info on forms of entertainment they actually enjoy. That does make it easier to pick games for someone, as you know then what sort of styles they're usually into.

In the meantime though, I'll second "Kirby's Epic Yarn," and add another game which -- if such a girl didn't like it -- I'd be rather surprised:

    "New Super Mario Bros. Wii"

Also, if they do like well-crafted shows and movies that, on the surface, look like they're for children but can truly satisfy all audiences, there's also:

    "A Boy and His Blob"
    "Disney Epic Mickey"
    "Klonoa"

    If they're creative-minded:

    "Boom Blox"

If they ever played any games in arcades years ago, and followed typical "girly girl" go-to standards:

    "Geometry Wars: Galaxies"
"Pinball Hall of Fame: The Williams Collection"

That should leave you with enough quality yet universally pleasing games to choose from.

Need ideas for my gf - she's a knitter, but I'm fairly sure she has anything she'll want/need that is knitting related. She also likes to bake cakes and cookies. She works in childcare/ECE.

Going out on a limb here, but I'm going to double-down on Kirby's Epic Yarn.
