I wouldn't count on being able to run SSDs in RAID--there isn't yet a RAID controller that will pass TRIM commands to two SSDs in a RAID0.

This is the only reason I haven't upgraded to SSD yet. I haven't been keeping an eye on the tech so I don't know if a controller that does this has come out yet. Ideally a controller that will let you RAID SSDs with TRIM and be able to RAID regular platter hard drives for storage. The benefit of waiting I guess is that SSD prices seem to be coming down pretty fast.

You can still run them in RAID, and some firmwares do decently with junk cleanup even without TRIM (Kingston's for example, which use the same controller as the Macbook Air's SSD does).

It'd partly come down to why you're using RAID to begin with I suppose too. A single SSD is still going to win out for access speeds and such over a top end RAID of traditional HDDs. Sustained transfer speeds...would depend on the drives in question. But even then, you're probably not going to buy SSDs for storing a lot of large files, given the cost.

I've been running 2x Intel 80gb's SSD's in a RAID0 for several months now with no issues. The biggest thing to watch for is get what you want on it and don't be writing to it constantly.
