    is what i thought too..

i feel bad for purely PS2 players of FFXI because this no fault of SE but Sony since they've been so stubborn with their hardware support of the PS2 and the HDD.

in the past, you could possibly opt to upgrade to a PS3 for higher HDD space, but this isnt even an option anymore because new PS3s aren't even backward compatible anymore.

i got my 1st gen 60gb ps3 (one of the only models that could support ff11) so that i could play FFXI in nostalgia-mode from time to time.

I really do hope they bring back PS2 emulation in some form.. maybe even a perfected software emulation, not sure for FFXI but so that they could bring PS2 classics to the PS store. Sad how Sony is limiting itself from so much potential.

They wont drop the PS2 platform, A LARGE amount of the Japanese/Chinese players still use PS2. My LS leader is a Chinese player from Beijing and from talking to him alot of JP players have modded PS2s/PS3's (With windower type pluggins) as alot of them prefer to spend there money on there family rather then indulge on a decent computer. I personally hate PS2 and honestly think if you cant afford a PC in 2010/2011 that can handle FF11 then you should kill yourself, but that's just me being an ass hole.

That being said, if the PS2 population is low compared to PC, why not come up with some grand plan to help those PS2 users into a new platform. free PC's for PS2 users lol. Just throwing that out there. You can't simply scrap PS2 users, but at the same time, it feels the game is being held back because of PS2 'limitations'
Who doesn't have a computer that can play a game made in 2002?

    Who doesn't have a computer in 2010?

Who can answer these questions? I have a feeling the answers will disappoint me.

We have 20-some GB of free space with FFXI and POL installed. The issue is that each game that installs to the HDD uses its own partition, and FFXI's partition is only 8 GB (5 before Rise of the Zilart). POL Viewer has 1 GB for its partition.

I'm not sure what the limit is for partition size on PS2 is, it may be 8 GB. I know it has to be multiples of 128 MB, so that's the minimum.

The HDD has plenty of free space, the game itself is filling its compartment, which it doesn't share with POL Viewer.

This is the first I've heard of such a thing. AFAIK, the files for FFXI on the PS2 HDD were only made accessible by a version of ULaunchELF that was released on PSX-Scene early this year. None of the homebrew coders and hackers on that site had managed to access the HDD game files for modification before.

I've been seeding the DAT files I ripped from the HDD in March ever since, and nobody has come back to me saying that they've figured out how to use any of the files except macros.

I'm pretty sure all the botters and such are on PC.

Taj was on the verge of curing cancer and invading the Rhineland, too. I would never believe anything about Taj, one way or the other.

The only thing I could guess is Skill ups? Skilling up has always been the most broken part to FFXI and it was cute back then when you could actually cap it in exp pts, but now retarded the lengths you have to go through to cap something especially if you're raising the job from scratch. It's retarded how they haven't made skill ups easier 200+ when the level cap keeps rising, especially if someone takes a job up 90 now.

eh~! I might try to update my PS2 some day if I'm bored, just to see if it glitches out. I'm a little confused how FFXI can take up so much space though. I thought I got a 60GB HDD with my FFXI-PS2 pack all those years ago.

If it fails to update then I'm basically done with the PS2, because the shit doesn't read disks anymore so there's no way to clean install. I'm amazed anyone ever managed to. I've lost two PS2s to disk read errors, both within a year.

Dust, the killer of PS2s... you should pick up a laser module from ebay and install it yourself but I don't think you'd care that much.

My PS2 is a 1st Gen model and it still runs smooth. Tho I take time out to make sure it's kept clean and dust free once a month at least. The problem with a lot of gamers out there is they don't know how to take care of their shit. Working at a used gamestore years ago I was still appauled at how abusive some people were with their game systems. Worst one I can recall which made me gag was opening up a used Sega Saturn system and a shitload of roaches actually skittered out of the unit all over the place. It took me about 6 hours of bug bomb to clean up that mess along with another 3 of flushing the system out and cleaning it.

I've had PC's brought into Fry's when I worked there (as well as notebooks) that had spiders or cockroaches living inside. Had one notebook that somehow ran (but overheated) despite cockroaches, spiders and moss growing on the CPU fan.

No unfortunately, but my supervisor was quite disgusted. Our only explanation is that the owner was a super villain who had an underground base below a lake and the dampness caused the issues. Think we charged him like a hundred to clean it and even then, it was the fastest notebook cleaning i've seen done.
