HAY SPAM. I'd like some advice on buying a guitar. I'm looking for a full size nylon string acoustic with a decent sound and a low pricepoint. I'm talking $150 or less low. The local music shop here went out of business, otherwise I would have utilized their expertise, so any links/suggestions would be great.

I primarily want to use the guitar to learn basically how to play of course, but also to use as percussion (tapping, etc) and some other unusual sounds to sample for making music. I have a little bit of experience from playing for two or three years when I was much much younger, but the only thing I remember is G and C cords.

I wouldn't recommend learning on a nylon string, especially a cheaper one. Get an acoustic with normal metal strings...on a cheaper acoustic the action is going to be a bit higher most likely, pressing the stronger strings down will help develop your fingers a bit better as you learn, then if you really want to play in a mariachi band or some shit you can get a classical with nylon strings later.

If you want to get into percussive sort of playing, nylon strings really don't work as well. The above is done on a bronze-stringed guitar, which gets that incredibly bright tone.

You can switch the strings, but typically classical guitars (ie nylon stringed) don't work particularly well with bronze or steel strings and the bridge gets pretty wrecked up. As a rule of thumb, an "acoustic" guitar is supposed to be strung with steel or bronze, and a "classical" guitar is nylon. Acoustics usually hold the strings in the bridge with pins. Classicals have the nylon string tied around the bridge. Kind of difficult to tie knots steel, and nylon strings don't always have the ball-end that holds it in place with the pin on an acoustic.

For entry-level guitars in the US, electric and acoustic, there's not really any better provider than Rondo. http://www.rondomusic.com/acoustics.html They haven't got a physical store presence to keep the costs down, but their quality control is second to none and there's full refund within the US and Canada. They have a fairly fanatical following with stateside guitar geek types.
