Contestants lose $800,000 on correct answer (12/20/10)

Has anyone else seen this? Apparently the show was wrong and made the contestants lose 800k when they gave the correct answer.

According to multiple sources (examples linked below), Post-it Notes were test-marketed in four cities in 1977, with the national roll-out following in 1980.

Apart from the technicality that the product originally was sold under the name "Press & Peel" (which would be a stretch even if the category were "brands" instead of "inventions"), "C" was the correct answer. Therefore, the contestants should have lost only $80,000 (not $800,000) on the question.

Looks like this show just killed itself. Don't know if I would want to play a game where I could possibly lose for giving the correct answer...

Test Marketed != Natonal Sales. Test Marketed doesn't mean sold publicly either.

    Walkman wins.

It's a terribly worded question. It just said first in stores, which would be whenever a physical Post-it note would be in a store for sale, which would include Test Market time. It seems like the test market time was free though and even 3M is apparently saying 1980 as the release date so they're fucked.

I guess it's too bad the question wasn't either of these things?

Well the show is glacially paced so I'm sure the entire audience was asleep and missed the error ever happening.

Shame the show is alot less dramatic than the tv ads made it to be, Kevin Pollack is a great impressionist.

A critical flaw in the premise: If somebody got burned early on everything but a small hedge, you could be spending 30 min watching people play for 20,000 dollars.

There is a critical flaw to all of these shows: they are fucking dumb. They come up with a new premise every week and each one is dumber than the last. Scratch that actually, I don't think it is possible to get any worse than "Deal or No Deal."

Okay, for homework find a boredom flaw in Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

    EDIT:
Well, I mean Millionaire? couldn't fail to disappoint if you wanted a game show because it's progressive. It'd be funny if the show was being played over a tiny fraction of the once-million off the bat.

And of course, real gameshows offer the rare 'epic fail', whereas "Deal or No Deal" is more of an all-fail, all the time show.

I think he means "play complete luck and you'll win" games. Older shows like WWTBAM and Jeopardy are pretty decent shows because they also require some form of knowledge, not random guessing or luck. At least Let's Make A Deal and (early) The Price Is Right had some comedy and action stuff to it to make it interesting.

Yeah. The original Millionaire with Regis was ok, but I can't speak on whatever bastardization exists now.

What is a boredom flaw? lol

The sole redeeming quality is the instances of fail:

    This little jerk-off gets owned.

Well, I'm sure they won't air a show where the contestant loses their money early on but keeps playing for a pittance the rest of the time block.

I'm just amused that you consider $20k a pittance, on the weakest link over here, one of our most successful game shows, the max prize is £10k with most people getting £2-4k
