Not a first down, can't review the spot. Pretty good rule.
Yeah, that was fairly lame.
i find matt ryan to be hella overrated
matt millen just described a play as a one cheek sneak, fucking...
haters gonna hate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZnmQ6tApHo
TIMOTHY RICHARD I LOVE YOU
if 12-3 is overrated that's fine with me
Running game sucked. We need a speed back, it's too bad Norwood could never stay healthy. Could also use some blue-chippers on the oline, Blalock is a beast and I don't mind Dahl and Clabo, but McClure will be replaced soon and Sam Baker just isn't very good. I was happy with the defense. Brian Williams missed how many fucking sacks?
The worst play of the game was the fucking 4th and 6 punt with 2:30 left. Are you fucking shitting me? Seriously? I don't care if we had been playing good defense for most of the game, they just marched 90 yards down the field without breaking a sweat. So HERPDERP, we can go for it and if we make it continue the drive OR not make it and be in the SAME FUCKING POSITION, needing a 3 and out to get the ball back. It boggles the mind how these coaches can know so much about football yet so little about common sense.
Overall it was a good, hard-fought game. Hopefully it will be a wake-up call before the playoffs.
OH and I haven't bitched about the Saints at all yet. Why is Steve Young guzzling Brees's cum after the game? They have his stats up there (32-49 302 yards 1 TD 2 INT) like they were good. Sorry but Brees played pretty bad by his standards.
and since when is Michael Turner CJ2K, trying to break everything outside? the RB coach should have been in his ear about that
falcons would benefit a lot from a speed back in conjunction with turner - he is towing a 300 lb caboose so he can't run that fast. Jesus that thing is large.
and punting the ball was the correct call imo. I believe you never let the game come down to one play.
Turner just looks so slow now. I don't know if it's just because he isn't breaking as many big runs or what, but he just looks slow. Perhaps he should backpedal and plow through defenders with his ass.
The game is going to come down to one play at some point. I understand your "extending the game" philosophy and I agree with it for the most part, but it isn't relevant in that situation imo.and punting the ball was the correct call imo. I believe you never let the game come down to one play.
It's 4th and 6 from your own 43. If you get the first, you only need about 15 more yards to get into FG range. If you don't get the first, it's Saints ball in Falcons territory. You still have the 2 min warning and 2 timeouts. If you stop them dead, you still get the ball back albeit with bad field position. If you give up one first but then stop them, you give up a FG and get the ball back down 6.
Punting really gives you less plays to work with. The next 3 decide the game in that case.
If the Saints hadn't just methodically driven down the field I would understand the call a little more(although I'd still disagree with it), but I had ZERO faith in stopping the Saints at that point. Against a middling QB maybe, but not king of accuracy Drew Brees.
I didn't really understand the punt either. If you go for it and get the first down, the drive continues and you are in good position for a field gold. If you miss it, Saints get the ball at the Atlanta 43. Then if you hold them to 3 and out, they will punt the ball (no one is kicking a 50-60 yrd fg in that scenario) and you have about 2:00 min left on the clock with no timeouts.
Now if you decide not to go for it, you punt and now you force your defense to hold them to 3 and out. If you do it like the Falcons but stop the Saints on 3 and inches, you get the ball back with 0:53 left on the clock with no timeouts.
Also, Brees played a very below average game. The first int was an awful throw and cost them the game earlier in the year vs the Falcons. Last year Brees rarely made mistakes, but this year he seems like he is so confident he makes awful throws for highlight reel purposes.
Yeah, and playcalling in general was pretty horrible. I also remember a couple passes Roddy White let hit him in the hands (seems to be a bad place for WR to get hit), so.. that didn't help.
And yeah, Brees pretty much had a below average game, and the Saints offense struggled heavily, yet they still came out with a win. One thing does get me, though. Everyone's talking about how The Saints/Falcons are only separated by one 29 yard FG. While that may be partially true.. can't you say the same about the Falcons and Turner fumbling on the one yard line before a TD? Could be separated by that play too.
But eh, what can you do. It's a week by week thing in the NFL.
It's hard to put your finger on any one thing but the Falcons just played pretty sloppy overall.
You could say the same thing for the Falcons(played bad and still almost won). I give credit to both defenses personally. The Saints played well against the run and pass, while the Falcons all but stonewalled the Saints until that deciding drive. And yeah, Brees pretty much had a below average game, and the Saints offense struggled heavily, yet they still came out with a win.
Right, It's dumb to point to one play like that. There was kind of a fluke punt in the first meeting that came down right on a Falcons player's leg. This game also had McClure's retarded snap. There are always going to be plays like that, good teams overcome them. One thing does get me, though. Everyone's talking about how The Saints/Falcons are only separated by one 29 yard FG. Also going back to what you said earlier in the thread about anyone beating us, I agree. I would feel confident against the NFC West winner, but anyone else has a decent to good chance of beating us. Eagles at the Dome would be pretty sick though, I hope that happens.
Not only as a #1, but a #1 that gets a shit ton of carries. Snelling is good, but we need a quick back like Norwood(/wrists) that can catch passes. It's kind of understated but the fact that Turner just does not catch any passes really hurts your versatility on offense. Never have to worry about him on a screen or in the flat. lrn2catch ASSMAN
One more: We NEVER fucking screen. Screens are a great weapon that need to be in our arsenal. LRN2SCREEN
