    Home Network Slowness Issues

Trying to figure out what happened to our LAN at home...a few weeks ago it went from normal to all of a sudden any time I need to access the other two computers on the router or print over the network it's slow as shit, printing becomes like a 3-5 minute deal, just viewing devices on the network is like a minute at least. As stated it was fine, no changes where made that I'm aware of, but now it's brutally slow.

Using a D-Link DIR-455, my laptop running Vista and g/f's PC running Win7 are both hard-wired, mom's laptop running Win7 is wireless. I'm assuming it's a router issue, individually everything works fine, internet speeds are normal and such, but once you try to do something between any of the connected computers that takes forever. Anyone have ideas on where to start looking?

When you connect to the D-Link GUI (router configuration menu), does it take forever to load on your browser too? Or just the devices on the network take long to load?

Also, I'm assuming you've networked your house via LAN. Can you access other computers on the network via Start > Run > \\computer-name ?

check to see if you're connected at 100mpbs/1000mbps. I had the same problem. Internet worked fine, but sharing files between computers inside my network was brutally slow.

The router page loads instantly, it's just finding other devices on the LAN that takes forever. Once they've actually found each other the data transfer rates are fine, just takes forever to get it to load. Doing the start > run method also is nearly instant it appears, just when it has to search for things on the network that takes a long time.

Everything but my mom's laptop appears to be, since that can only get 54.

    1) Click on the wireless icon in your system tray.
    2) Click on View Wireless Networks.
    3) Click on Change the order of Preferred Networks.
    4) Make sure that your home network is first on the list.

Putting your home network first on the list will save time, since Windows will try to connect to the right network right away.
