I setup our LS on here and set DKP to Attendance only / Loot council because I give all the items away myself. Only problem is I'd like to be able to see who is on each list on the fly... like right when the item drops I just wanna click item and see who wished for it. I can't seem to make it do this. Am I doing something wrong or is this impossible?
Nvm its working just seems to take a bit to register that the wish was made and it wont show my own wishlist just my alt character's which is fine.
This site is very nice btw. Thanks a lot.
If you have any problems feel free to message me on Guildwork, I will reply faster.
Thanks to Scragg's awesome idea and API, Guildwork will now automatically import all your FFXI characters from FFXIAH when you register. It should be easier to get started with a linkshell site and convince friends to give it a try.
We moved both of our shells to Guildwork this week. We'd been messing around with it since late summer and slowly gotten a few people to mess around with it. Development on the site is accelerating, new stuff seems to pop up every week, sometimes daily. It's nice being kept in the loop for what's coming up.
The social aspect of the system is complete win. People love that its modern and facebook-like. It's a lot less clumsy than guildportal, which we've just dropped in favour of guildwork. There are always things being worked on but even at this stage it really is amazingly useful. Its encouraging peeps to actually communicate with each other... rather than just login to check stuff and logout.
I'm having a hell of a time getting my members to even WANT to use it, and I'm not sure why. I've got like 6 people who registered and love it, but the rest just seem to not care. I think the chat is one of the best things on the site since I don't have to tab back to FFXI to chat with someone, plus you can chat at work and stuff which is pretty wicked IMO. Like Eldelphia said, it encourages communication :D
Easiest way to fix that - if you run a dkp system, tell your members that they have to update their wish list themselves. I did that and while a few people whined about it, most finally got off their asses and registered. A decent number who made the conversion after the fact actually like it now and think its pretty awesome.
Enter blurb on how great it is as an admin that users can finally update their own shit instead of having to do it all manually myself.
That's the main problem there, I don't run a DKP linkshell. No events are mandatory so I can't really make going to a linkshell site mandatory either.
Kind of funny that your LS's slogun is "a social ls first", but they don't want to be social =P
As for DKP.. your LS does not need to run on points to use the DKP. No matter what type of system you are in it is a good idea to have wish lists.
lol, had a feeling someone would mention that. The slogan has to deal with the whole HNMLS VS event LS VS social shell aspect of FFXI, half the LS plays on console so I think half the reason is they can't just tab out and mess around on the site. Ya, I plan on using the wishlist, it's an easy way to track down what people want and I don't have to log on to my forum to check anymore.
We don't use points for our main shell, but the attendance/drops thing is nice for us because we do monitor who is showing up. We use a points system for dyna and ein and have a separate site for that.
Things I would point out to encourage others to use include the ability to schedule events amongst friends on your global schedule. That's a freaking godsend. Also people love the feed updating them on what others are doing.
One of the BIGGEST wins for me, was definitely the event countdown. It's the kind of thing I wish SE had in game so you knew how long until the next scheduled event say when you logged into your ls. It's a joke in my shell that I RAGE on Saturdays about dynamis time. After over 2 years of running this dyna shell, members who have been there from the start still ask 'how long til dynamis?'. CTFF. (Checking the f*cking forum!)
One to one messaging is great but group ls chat is really useful sometimes. Also being able to check it from your phone is pretty win.
There are things coming which essentially will allow some more customisation on the look and feel but the basic functionality is what's selling me so far. It's really nice for people with multiple games on the go.
We introduced a few tech savvy, vocal peeps to it first to mess around with, then frankly I bugged people on vent. Momentum pushed me to set a date to move and closing down the threads in the old forum has forced almost everyone to register. Yesterday I messaged the peeps who weren't, via FFXIAH because I know they get emailed and a few more have trickled in. Took about 3 weeks of active promotion to the shells as a whole but now people love it.
I updated flash earlier today and since then I haven't been able to log into the site. Keep receiving an error message that java script needs to be enabled even though I have No Script allowing everything on the site. If I try an Third-Party Authentication, the site asks me to register.
This is an issue with you having NoScript on.
Ok I solved it, it was not a noScript problem since I allowed guildwork and also disabled Adblock just in case, when I switched on my PC I had a failed Flash update and after that I had those problems, then later after rebooting and updating Flash for real seems everything works ok.
I asked Sonomaa if this was okay to post and he said it was so here we go.
We at Guildwork are testing our new Mumble server integration and as way to get people to try out Mumble (since so many of you are used to Ventrilo) and help us stress test our servers we are offering a 25-man Mumble server completely free till Jan 1st, 2011.

Hope you give it a try
As always if there any questions I will reply as promptly as possible.
I highly approve, if only for the name.
I like the service a ton, the quality is great and the overlay is amazing. The only thing I dont like is that you cant turn anyone up or down, even with the equilization some people need some adjustment here and there. Also connecting directly through the site is awesome.
