I remember a couple of years ago there was a weapon skill counter for trial weapons. Does that still exist in any fashion, and if so does it read preexisting WS, or does it only read what you've done since you launched the application? I have a ton of trial weapons to finish off and a counter would be very handy.
It does still work and counts previous WSs, though you'll need to read the instructions for how to make it work.

You load up the program, make sure the weapon is in your inventory, click "Refresh weapons" or something and it will show up with 0 points. Then you move it to your Satchel and select "Check points." It does not work when you are in your mog house, but you do not have to zone for it to work as the download page says. There are some times when it glitches out, idk why. It got me through all my WSNM trials though.
Thank you, Night :D
So, I left FFXI back in September and I am thinking of coming back. Looking to re-gear my DRG and COR. What am I going to be looking for gear-wise?
Okay, let's be a little more specific. Outside of Emperian/Relic/Mythic: Best QD Gun? Best WS gun? Best polearm?
Looking at the Abyssea - Konschat map there doesn't seem to be any mobs that are aoe-able. Is there some tactic people use that can farm time easily in there? So far we just cap lights on VNMs then farm mobs between fistule kills keeping our fingers crossed, I am just assuming that particular zone doesn't have such luxury. Any ideas?
I swear when we cleave/cata/edge burn we see a ton more KIs for Turtle and Sandworm than we do for mandy, The hecaeyes KI seems to be the rarest but im sure others will say they get tons of them, XD
It is exactly as you suspect. Other groups will report the opposite luck.
I personally bought/was given 14 Glavoid shells and duo farmed with another guy who was going for Chloris (he got 2 buds). We finished at the same time, popping all the pops we had at the end of each night. So we saw a lot more complete Chloris sets than Glavoids. We constantly seemed to get blocked by Fatty cock skins for Glavoid and Torn Bat wings for Chloris.
Everyone will see extra Lacovies just because you get his KIs in two ways.
God, we have seen so many Fatty Cock skins that everyone was capped after maybe 45 mins of burning (no one had them coming in, about 10 of us I think) and after that they were going to waste.
Prob going to do what people say, burn and then just pop NMs to finish sets just wish the eyes wasnt 3 items to pop and 2 coming from NMs but I guess it really should be hard to just take em down. they are 100% drop at least right?
Mmk, well thanks for the advice on Glav. Will probably mostly be myself, my wife and my friend farming pops, so KI repeats are what I was worried about most for cleaving but selling off Buds doesn't sound like a bad deal either. Maybe I'll see if I can bring a couple more friends to farm while we cleave.
I usually offer friends spots to leach in return for holding Kis for us. Seems to work out pretty well as long as you can trust them.
Once lights are capped, 1 good blm can blm burn the funguars for time/temps. Pull one at max range, link them all, sleep, manawall, and ga/ja them down, using 2 hr and restore chests every pull. With capped azure/pearl, its no different than a FC party depending on a restore chest etc, and can make decent money off the purple polypores as well.
The blu could also try to charged whisker burn, if they have a decent setup. not sure what mobs I would target for it tho, but setup is the same, link mobs, dream flower them, wait for recast and charged whisker away.
yes, but the thf needs to have a MDT set. two friends and i trio'ed her frequently (mnk rdm[me] brd), and w/o a MDT, your thf can very easily get dropped if cara decides to do mute > tornado 2 (which she loves to do), even with shell 5. if your thf doesn't have a MDT set, his hp should be over 3k and capped off, he should be fine almost all the time. in the event that the thf gets killed, the rdm should bio cara and just kite her around the lake while the thf home points and re-enters. she's ridiculously easy to kite so long as you get out of range of tornado 2 and aeroga 3 (if you can't, you have no business fighting her lol). just be careful of her deaggroing.
the fight itself is super easy, but will be time consuming with just a thf for DD and no buffs outside of haste. pull it to the ramp where the NPC is fighting fly/crab, then the rdm should target the thf and back up until you're 19.5ish away, so the rdm doesn't get hit by the aoe enfeebles (slowga, which needs erase, paralyga and breakga). just keep it enfeebled to all hell, keep dia3 and poison 2 on it at all times, reapply shell 5 whenever it is erased, and spam cure 4s as needed (surya's +2 and atma of the rescuer are fantastic for cure 4s). i preferred going /sch, but it means no stona, so don't get tagged by breakga. that said, none of her melee or tp moves are too damaging, and petrify will wear by the time she is able to cast again, so i just kept the mnk cured up.
Aside from solo'ing shit as rdm, what is rdm generally useful for these days? I pretty much called it a dead job for current times and had a bunch of ppl whining and complaining at me, lol so trying to see if I missed a hidden usage for the job or something.
