Having an argument with a friend over whether or not killing PHs and only PHs actually speeds up NM spawns. If anyone can link me to a study or something, that'd be awesome. I've heard both sides, and I don't actually know which is correct. Been playing the game for 7 years now but always just assumed that knowing the PH only sped up spawn times due to the fact that you only have to go after one mob and not several. :O Just wondering if rumors are true or whatever.

Killing the PH and only PH speeds you up because you're not wasting time killing other mobs before the actual PH, as you stated.

what are some good post 75 skillup spots? doing staff

if you have stones to burn, just go into grauberg and do crabs. assuming you're skilling up on a job that isn't blm, because that's just silly with such terrible defensive and offensive capability. when i'm skilling on mnk, i go mounted champion, stronghold and razed ruins until my skill is 300ish, at which point i swap razed ruins for apocalypse. when i'm skilling on rdm, i just use mounted champion, razed ruins and apocalypse. i use cheap sushi and go wild. if crabs start popping T-IT (ie, if there's an exp pt there), i'll rely more on PC > ichi > ni, by which point i've recovered my hp. you will run into a problem with crabs if you're the only one out there once you reach 325-330ish skill, because you won't be able to kill fast enough for them to repop any stronger than DC. i got frustrated today trying to get the last point on dagger for rdm and pulled melo melo and just played with him for 40 minutes or so.

outside abyssea, your best bet is probably orichalcumshells on the dahak island in mount zhayolm. can't speak from personal experience on those, but they're some of the few 88-91 mobs outside of abyssea.

What atmas should I use to brew Shinryu on NIN?

For most jobs you're usually best off going all out MAB and elemental damage+ atmas. While under brew elemental weapon skills usually do more damage than regular ones.

But tbh speed isn't that important, brew lasts 3 minutes and as long as you don't keep healing it any job can solo under brew.

That'll do. Just be careful about healing him and you'll be fine. The main thing is to stay calm. Those atmas should work well for Blade: Ei though.

I am getting ready to get Almace + Ochain now and was wondering about merits for PLD. I think Cover 5/5, Sentinel 5/5, Fealty 5/5, Chivalry 1/5 and later idk. Since Ochain is rather enough for not being interrupted Guardian looks more logic but maybe for when I cant use shield ( triggering !! with polearm, staff, gsword ) "Iron will" will have some use?

Inb4 Lvl MNK. lolPLD. It doesn't matter. etc.. I have Veret MNK Kannagi NIN and I know those jobs are better in abyssea and outside probably for 95% events but I dont want to start another discussion just asking if someone see some use for Guardian or Iron Will that I am missing or maybe some other options for merits.

I just 3 regen atmas (Champion, Vicissitude, and Stronghold) for 50/tick Regen. Figure if I'm skilling up, the point isn't so much to kill mobs ASAP despite understanding why you might given the nature of Abyssea. Even, when working on club, staff, axe, and ga on WAR, I'd managed to perpetuate myself for multiple hours even at times juggling 2-3 crabs at once. Only tricky part for a melee might be building azure to do this, but a few reds should do the trick eventually. Wasn't really an issue even when they were spawning T or up. Hell, did the same on my WHM at 83 on Surveyors in Ule for more club and random domonion seals. It's fun confusing people when you're soloing things that're still T to 90s. Wound up halfway into 84 by the time I finished.

best quest path to take to get Azure abyssite of merit? :/ getting sick of waiting once a vana'diel day to turn in a picture, currently I think T2 fame.

Assuming you've done "Rose on a Heath" the best way I found was to use Pics and Martellos when possible, but mostly concentrate on Mushrooms. Buy as many as it takes to get to lvl 4 fame and save the Soothing Potions. Once you get to lvl 4, use the Potions for "The Walking Wounded". The more you relied on Mushrooms to get to lvl 4, the faster 4-6 will go as I think the Potion quest gives a fair amount of fame. By the time I hit 4, I had 26 Soothing Potions (enough for 5 repetitions of "The Walking Wounded"), and from there I think I did one more Martello upgrade and one more Picture and hit lvl 6.

Did this just last night over a span or about 2 hours, most of which was inside.

Yes, they need to land. But good luck if you need dark threnody. We couldn't get it to land at all.

I know this is only applicable to WAR, but with 22 PDT and 50 regen form atmas I found out recently you can easily hold two Orapodiums with defender and retaliation. Retaliations can skill you up and while doing 2 mandies I ended up getting more than twice as many attack from retaliations than from regular swings. Also, this was at 87. At 90 with DNC sub and more PDT you should be able to hold 3 or even 4 mobs.
