Just Started playing need help....

I just started playing the other day and i got a few questions about the game, since i still have no linkshell even though i shouted (not spammed) about linkshells in gridania for about an hour today i got no joy.

please forgive me for the n00bness. I have been reading the forum since before beta but am not sure about a few things.

I started in Gridania as a THaumaturge and got the 1st quest started which i'm not sure how to complete. I went to the conjurer's guild to be cleansed, and all i got was a cutscene where i was told the botanist guild would be in touch... what do i do next???

Are there guides out there for quests like there was for ffxi like ffxiclopedia... i've been looking but the wiki on earopedia and FFXIV core are shit...


The second question is this. I got to Rank 9 just by doing about 5 guild Leaves in Camp Brentbranch now i'm near rank 10 i thought i should be doing the leaves that say rank 10 no? however it says the camp for these are in Camp emerald moss.... And i can't find that at all on the map in game. where is it? easy to find? Am i doing the right thing?

Third question is how do i buy/sell and use my retainer??? I thought there are market wards... but i can't find that on the map either... am i retarded or what...

Also what are faction guild leaves there never seems to be any available...
Hopefully i'll find a linkshell soon so i can ask help from in game people. but till then I'm afraid is you guys that are gonna bear the brunt...

1. First quest? Not sure but anyway : Menu > Journal > Click Quest > Click Journal/Map button (the one in the lower left corner), it will unfurl a map showing you where to go next, if it doesn't the text is usually good enough to find out.

2. Guides uh... I think ZAM has some but not really

3. Market Wards are near the Aetheryte in town, the closest zone (yellow arrow on map) then you just click Summon Retainer once inside...

Oh and you should get to Ul'dah, lots more active than Gridania probably more chance to find a LS there

Thanks Sruon, but what about the rank 10 guildleaves and where to go? any suggestions? it says camp emerald moss but i can't see it on the map. any online maps i could look at maybe?

Eorzeapedia also shows the coordinates of the camp if you enter it in the search.

you can find other areas on the map by scrolling with I J K L, if that's where you're getting stuck (otherwise scroll waaaaaaaaaaaay to the west to find Emerald Moss). Each new camp is a bit of a hike to the next - the same with the other zones.

And just as a heads up, each new main story mission/quest doesn't open up (these are 'finished' when you receive gil) until every 5 ranks are gained.

Page down will zoom the map out. You can also pan it around. All of the camps and aetherial gates are shown on the maps just takes quite a bit of moving the map around sometimes cuz they are so large. Trying to read any of the Eorzean text on the maps though is another story....

I've found the quest walkthroughs on eorzeapedia to be pretty useful.
