Doing small jobs in tech, explanation of charges/bills
I've been doing some small tech jobs for a few contacts someone set me up with. It's been very simple jobs for the not so tech savvy. One of my clients is requesting a bill / explanation of charges to put to keep in records.
Does anyone have examples or recommend what all I should put on there? I was thinking parts / labor etc that kind of stuff. Also I charge different prices per labor depending on the skill / tools required for the job. Anything I should put in fine print that would keep me from being liable for something later? I may start using this later on if start picking up more clients.
I've thought about advertising as a business for managing networks and selling hour blocks but that's a whole different monster.
Edit: Thanks in advance btw!

Use templates located in Microsoft Word for Invoicing. Build from that.

Best tip I can give you is set an exact price for everything. If you do this often enough it is probably worth setting yourself up as a sole proprietorship for insurance purposes. Keep in mind if you go into their home to fix their PC, you might be held responsible for any of their personal possessions you break. Always ask if you need to remove your shoes, etc. In short, cover your ass.

When fixing problems make sure to note the steps taken, how it was fixed, the time it took. If you have a set fixed hour rate you can convert that, plus any hardware used, etc. Also what hosom said, i normally invest into some of those plastic slip ons you can put over your shoes. Put them on every time you walk into a home. And yes, word has an invoice templete .

I have an hourly charge (one for if people bring pc to me, one for if I go to them), I also have set prices for things like format/reinstall.
