Of all the things that could have taken him down; his immune system failed him with pneumonia and his lungs. . . well you know the rest![]()
And now an eulogy for Jack Lalanne, courtesy of Rush Limbaugh:
Keeeerist what a rampaging douchebag."With great fanfare, it was reported last week that the current health advice about eating five portions of fruit and vegetables a day is outdated, and that scientists now believe that eight portions is more beneficial." And with no more than that, people will believe it because it shows up in the media. And scientists wouldn't lie about this, why would they anyway? Jack LaLanne was a vegetarian, look what happened to him? He died. Jack LaLanne was a vegetarian exercise freak and look what happened to him. He passed away. It's amazing, isn't it? "While many people grumbled about how on earth they would manage those extra portions, I allowed myself a wry smile." This is Zoe Harcombe writing. "For more than two years I’ve known that the 'five-a-day' mantra we’re all so familiar with is nothing but a fairytale. Of course, they are tasty, colorful additions to any meal. But in terms of health and nutrition, fruit and veg have little to offer, and telling us to eat eight portions a day is compounding one of the worst health fallacies in recent history.
"Surprised? Many people will be, and no doubt some dieticians and nutritionists will reject my arguments. But science backs me up. The latest findings come from a European study into diet and health looking at 300,000 people in eight countries. It found that people who ate eight or more portions of fresh food a day had a 22 per cent lower chance of dying from heart disease. Yet just 1,636 participants died during the study from heart disease, which is about half of one per cent. Out of that very small proportion, fewer people died from the group that ate more fruit and veg. However, the researchers cautioned that these people may have healthier lifestyles generally. They may be less likely to smoke; they may eat less processed food; they may be more active. What we should not do is to make the usual bad science leap from association to causation and say 'eating more fruit and veg lowers the risk of dying from heart disease.'" If you want to believe it nothing's gonna talk you out of it. And that's fine, if you want to believe it, go right ahead. Just remember Jack LaLanne. But feel free, just keep it to yourself.
You apes wanna live forever!
I always pictured him making it to at least 100. I guess the body can only take so much after a while. The dude was in better shape than a lot of teenagers even.
I've heard about the 8 fruit/veg thing somewhere too.
Rush talking about the media sensationalizing with a sensational speech. Yea. Not at all hypocritical.
Rush will be lucky to live to be in his 70s. LaLanne's lifestyle kept him healthy almost to 100, not to mention he had a hit exercise show and probably was more healthy 10 minutes after his death than Rush is right now.
Rush is filthy fucking rich, he is gonna outlive us all by paying for black market organs to replace his failing ones.

Surprised no one posted on John Barry given the number of Bond fans out there.
Q_Q
Oh god not John Barry.
After Dio and Gerry Rafferty, this decade decides to kill yet another music god: Gary Moore.
Damn.
Brian Jacques, fairly well-known author of the Redwall series, amongst other things, died of a heart attack at 71.

Well known for his Mel Brooks movies, but dude also had a ton of animated credits, including King Triton in pretty much every incarnation of the Little Mermaid.

Kenneth Mars, veteran screen and voice actor, dies at 75
February 15, 2011
Kenneth Mars, 75, a veteran actor whose most memorable performances were his two collaborations with director Mel Brooks in "The Producers" and "Young Frankenstein," died of pancreatic cancer Saturday at his home in Granada Hills.
During a career that spanned five decades, Mars appeared in more than 35 films, including "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid" (1969), "Desperate Characters" (1971), "What's Up, Doc?" (1972), and "Radio Days" (1987). He also had roles in scores of television shows, including "Love, American Style," "Fernwood Tonight, "The Ghost and Mrs. Muir," "McMillan & Wife" and "Malcolm in the Middle."
In "The Producers" (1968), he played Franz Liebkind, a somewhat demented Nazi whose play, "Springtime for Hitler," attracts a couple of scheming Broadway producers played by Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel. One of his most quoted lines was, "Not many people know it, but the Fuhrer was a terrific dancer!"
In "Young Frankenstein," Mars again displayed a flair for Germanic characters in the role of Inspector Kemp, a monocled police chief with a hilariously malfunctioning prosthetic arm.
"[F]ew actors anywhere can portray daffy Germans as superbly as Kenneth Mars," Robert Alan Crick wrote in the 2009 book "Big Screen Comedies of Mel Brooks."
Mars was born April 4, 1935, in Chicago. A fine arts graduate of Northwestern University, he began acting in the early 1960s.
In his later years, he was a sought-after voice actor in children's cartoons and animated features. He voiced the part of Grandpa Longneck in "The Land Before Time" series and King Triton in the "The Little Mermaid."
