USB/MIDI Keyboard for learning to play Piano

Will something like this work out ok for someone learning to play?

Basically for someone who was VERY musically inclined until college, hasn't touched any instrument in 2yrs, always picked up new instruments very quickly, has always been interested in Piano, but has absolutely NO room for it. The only place really is on their computer desk, maybe between keyboard&monitor swapping spots with keyboard. Will it do ok just to play around with and learn a bit at least until they get their hands on an 88key with weighted keys?

Yes, but once they start getting better at playing you really ought to get them at least a weighted-key keyboard.

If their fingers get too used to playing light keys, they'll have difficulty playing on real pianos as their finger muscles will be underdeveloped.

If this won't be an issue, keyboard keys, even when weighted, aren't even that heavy to begin with. Piano keys are the heaviest.

That will do fine for learning though. If they want to pick up some good learning they should go through Alfred's piano books and Hanon's finger exercises. Careful with the finger exercises though - they're only useful for training the fingers to be quick. They have no application in actually playing music.

Yeah that's the plan, but that's on them. This was more of a here learn to play if you like it get something nice kinda thing.
