Should've pulled the memory before backing up in case it crashes during file transfers! Risky business, but good luck!

Gskill provides a lifetime warranty if you need to change them, just ask for a RMA on their website.

yep it's definitely 1 stick, I just tried with one and it worked fine but the other is borked.

I wonder how long that'll take? I'd rather just order another 2 sticks from newegg and get it by the end of the week so I can keep playing morrowind lol

if the $50 doesn't bother you, order another 4gb & RMA the first batch, and in the end you'll have 8gb

ugh ok so now im trying to reinstall windows with 1 stick of memory, is that a bad idea? Both of the discs ive tried to use get stuck at "Expanding Windows Files 0%" for what seems like forever, even on a disc I've previously used to install Windows 7. The problem is, I think I accidentally formatted/deleted the "system only" partition of 100gb (the rest is 900gb) thinking it'd let me start over and reinstall, but now it seems like I'm stuck. Starting up the computer without the DVD gives "BOOTMGR is missing" on a black screen" so I think I fucked up pretty bad.

Is there any way to unpartition and start again from scratch? I don't care about having to reformat

edit: ok I unpartitioned/reformatted, but now it's still stuck on "Expanding Windows files 0%". I am not sure if it's just going to take a long time or if somehow both discs are bad even though I've used one before. I'm burning a 3rd install disc to try again but yea

ok nvm I think it's working now, finally got to 2% yay. I think my problem (my previous windows problem) was that I didn't use a Loader to fix my copy of windows

My next question is regarding why Morrowind's installation on windows 7 seems to fuck up and not include a number of data files and why it won't let me unrar/unzip archives into certain folders even after I uncheck Read-Only (lord knows why it keeps setting all my installed programs and shit to read-only)

Most companies will offer Advance RMA's. It probably doesn't help you much in your case since 1 stick is dead as fuck, but with an ARMA, they send you a replacement first, and then you send yours to them. They charge your credit card temporarily, in case you are shifty and decide to not send a stick back.

Sometimes the Windows 7 install is just slow to start. My most recent build stayed at that point for a while, but after that it picked up a lot of steam.

Anyhow, sorry to hear about your problem. You should contact the manufacturer to see about a replacement even though it's out of warranty. You never know what might happen. Worst thing they can do is say "no" and you have to fork over another 50$ for new RAM.

yea I already ordered new ram on newegg which should be here by the end of the week, then I'll RMA the 2x2gb sticks I have and I'll have 8gb total when it gets here lol. Not that I need 8gb of ram for anything >_>

ok random question, I know that most of the time they tell you to install 2 memory sticks in parallel (as in an even number of them), but is there any harm in having an odd number? once my new set of 2 gets here, I'll have 3 2gb modules total (and 4 slots), is it okay to just use 3 (for 6gb total ram) or should I wait until I get another set of 2 before I upgrade from 4gb to 8gb?

Pretty sure you need a motherboard/processor that support triple-channel memory in order to use multiples of 3 instead of two, probably want to check if your other hardware supports it first. I think only i7-900s and Xeons actually support it.

yeah if you were at two before you are dual channel, so stick to multiples of two. i went to 12gb basically because i can't do 8 in triple channel, and i didn't like going from my old core 2 duo system @ 8gb to just 6gb on my new system. and yes i realize 12gb is overkill. big balls

edit, lemme rephrase that. if your system allows you to run in single channel mode yes you could have an odd number of dimms, but it wouldn't be as good as dual channel. so stick to multiples of two/matching speeds

You're not going to get the benefit of triple channel but it will work.

Also if you're counting on keeping the working RAM DIMM I think Gskill will make you RMA it with other since they're sold in pack.

ugh okay, so I've followed just about every step on this site:
    http://forums.mydigitallife.info/thr...s-7-Repository

to activate my copy of windows and it was working for 2 days after I first installed, but now I keep getting the "not genuine" message and it won't go away. I've looked all over for instructions and tried like 2 or 3 programs and nothing is fucking working. Any ideas? Do I need to reformat a third fucking time?

I've used the same loader in that thread on 3 different systems, one as recently as Thanksgiving and never had any issues, idk

There should be a different thread on those same forums specifically for that loader, I think if you've used other loaders before there's a step to clear them out before running it that may need to be taken, I recall having to do that the first time it happened to me on my g/f's PC, but when running it from a fresh install of 7 it was a one-click deal.

OK i restarted for the umpteenth time and now it's not giving me the message anymore, dunno what I actually did but apparently trying 10 times in a row is how you solve this particular problem, fucking windows
