Truth is, these type of Christians in the article are out of their minds...No one knows the time or date of Jesus return...also he only will return at the end of The Great Tribulation (the 7 year period of God's Wrath poured upon everyone, split it two, but the second half is worse after the Abomination of Desolation)...The term 'Apocalypse' really is talking about 'Revelation' and all the events that occur in it...'The Book of Revelation' used to be called 'The Book of Apocalypse'...

When you read Revelation, it sounds like some strange stuff about Beasts, Furnaces, Serpents, Lambs, Blasphemy etc, but you have to remember that when John wrote this, he basically had gotten a prophetic vision about today's time or the future, and had to write about it in vocabulary that he knew during his time...he could not describe it using words of todays time...

For example "When he opened the Abyss, smoke rose from it like the smoke from a gigantic furnace. The sun and sky were darkened by the smoke from the Abyss." - Revelation 9:2...Here, John is talking about a shaft or a bottomless pit being opened and seeing an object rise out of it with a smoke trail that looks like a furnace...The sun and the sky were darkened by the smoke trail...This probably means what he saw in this part of the vision a missile being launched from underground. There's other interpretations where John describes a set of "flying locust which makes sounds which sound like galloping horses..." The best interpretation of that description of his, was that he was talking about Apache Gunships.

Keep in mind John was given a vision of the Pre-Mid-Post Tribulation time periods...remember his vocabulary was not the same as what we know today, so he used what he knew to describe things of today's time or the future. No one knows when the Rapture will occur either, can occur Pre-Mid-Post Tribulation. Mid-Post Tribulation make the most sense, God Rapturing the good before the Abomination of Desolation (Which is the Mid-Point of Tribulation) might make sense before he pours a larger amount of wrath on people who follow the Antichrist after he declares himself God on Earth...Post-Tribulation Rapture would be the ULTIMATE test to true Christians...

Right now we ARE living in end times...things are not going to get better before they get worst. They will get worst, nasty, TORTUROUS, and E X P L O S I V E...God said that his people would re-establish their name in their homeland ( Israel-1948 ) and reclaim their capital ( Jerusalem-1962 )...He also said that when these things come to pass, it will be the last generation that will exist, before his return...Since 1962, the clock has been ticking, we Christians must endure the wait, and endure the hate, but persuade the people who are lost, even if it means more hate or martyrdom (dying at the hand of the ones who hate us enough to kill us because of our Christian faith)...

I am a christian born and raised. Many details from the scripture has been lost to me for a while. However, the teachings and meanings remain strong.A few things that puzzle me about doomsday prophecies as they relate to Christianity. Well one thing in particular, why the obession over when the world will end? God created us with love, knowing that we will struggle, kill, love and like each other. This is what we do as humans and we grow stronger from it. Yes the world changes and sometimes for the worse but we have come to a point where we can influence a positive change instead of letting it slip away.
Why is living in this world so bad that you hope ofr it to end? Everything we see, eat, breathe, taste, smell, feel, love, hate and like is a miracle in and of itself. The world and humans have so much more potential that where we are now. Think about it, as far as we know humans as we are now have existed for mearly a blink of an eye. If the history of the planet was an hour, then our existence is at max ....0.5 seconds if that.

I think most Christians are attracted to the fact that Heaven is a place where we become beings that feel no pain, no sickness, no thirst, no hunger, and we commit no sin, and we forget all sorrows/sadness about the loved ones who didn't make it to heaven...The ultimate gift is getting to be with the one who we worship 24/7...Even though there we will be no hunger, the bible says food and drinks will be in heaven...Animals will also be there too, and we will get to explore the universe in it's entirety, something that astronauts have been wanting to do...but will never be able to do because of limitations.

Everything you mention about hunger, pain , sickness although negative is a gift from God. I think of it as ithis, evrything we experience good or bad serves the purpose of either making us stronger or reminding us that we are still alive and able to thank God for being alive and able to live in this world that he created for us. God is with us every moment of every day as it is now. I too yearn to be in heaven with my loved ones but I know without a shadow of a doubt that we still have so much more to do here.

11/15. Could've sworn the Jewish sabbath was Saturday. Guess I got that mixed up with 7th day adventism somehow. I had a Jewish friend in college, but he wasn't really hard-core practicing. Never heard of Joseph Smith (that's such a ridiculously common name though). Had to think for a bit on Pakistan and some of the others though.

Jewish Sabbath starts Friday night and goes until Saturday night.

    Why specifically Apaches?

Because that's the modern times interpretation. What the fuck, Zaraki? You didn't know that when 1000 birds randomly fall out of the sky that the bible predicted it 1900 years ago? You didn't know that dead fish washing up on the shore was a sign of the second coming?

Revelations in the bible is the world's greatest psychic fiction novel. Make a bunch of cold reading blanket statements and people think it's all fucking true.

Watch, next week a boat filled with wine shipments will drop a few barrels into a river by mistake and people will say the seas are turning red.

    10/15

    Missed:

Which of the following is NOT one of the Ten Commandments? - honestly didn't remember them all lol
When does the Jewish Sabbath begin? - Thought it was Saturday but Friday night makes more sense, need to rewatch fiddler on the roof.
Which of the following best describes the Catholic teaching about the bread and wine used for Communion? - Got this one wrong but w/e. The question seems backwards to me because I thought it was the blood that turned to wine and not the other way around, hence why I thought them as symbols.
Which Bible figure is most closely associated with remaining obedient to God despite suffering? - I don't even remember Job from the bible...
Which one of these preachers participated in the period of religious activity known as the First Great Awakening? - No fucking clue.

Agnostic/Atheist/Don't really care/Thinks if there is a God he's a fucking douche bag.

Yes, that is by far the best and only possible interpretation of vague poorly connected words, yep. No doubt about it.

To me it sounds more like a Volcano than a missile... but w/e.

Seems pointless to me to forget everything that we've learned, but most of our learning is through failures and sorrow.

Weird thought: religion is basically an outgrowth of people being scared to die, and unwilling to accept that they could simply stop existing as they've become accustomed to doing, when you boil it all down.

Were you scared of that state before you were born? Know the only difference between that and being dead?

If you're lucky you'll be fondly remembered, that isn't so bad... though I'm not against the idea of prolonging awareness indefinitely, it seems far more interesting from my perspective at least.

Unfortunately, I can't trust the ramblings of some guy who has been dead for a couple thousand years, so here's to hoping we see the Singularity in our lifetimes!

Derp, it's a simile. Not "And then a great furnace will rise from the earth followed by a smoke trail!" 1962 was a while ago bro, god sure is taking his time.

So basically, theists and atheists are like mirror opposites. Two sides of the same coin, if you will.
