    alright, I got past the speed problem by creating an Argonian with Athletics as a major skill. Speed seems to have less of an effect on movement than Athletics. it's not Oblivion, but she's moving fast enough for me.

    the next thing keeping me from enjoying the game, however, is the fucking melee combat. trying to dive for pearls and Slaughterfish were slaughtering me, aptly enough. Bound Dagger made a world of difference but in the end I think melee combat in this game (as so many have said) is just plain shitty no matter how you approach it. I'm still enjoying the game, I just wish it didn't take twenty attempts to land one hit on even the weakest monsters.

    I still maintain that Oblivion with Morrowind's environments and leveling system would be fantastic. here's hoping that's the direction they head in for Skyrim.

    Ok so, finally getting started with Morrowind. I followed the blog post someone posted for the "morrowind updated" and everything looks really, really nice. I figured out you can actually steal (and know if you'll get caught) by ducking before stealing, and a little icon pops up if you can't be seen.

    Anyway I made a battlemage-type everyman, with STR and INT as major attributes and Long Blade, Security, Speech, Destruction, and Restoration as major skills, and Alteration, Illusion, Light Armor, Mysticism, and Enchanting as lesser skills. Some shitty choices I guess, kinda wish I had gone with marksmanship but I never used it in Oblivion.

    I'm pretty close to the beginning, went and cleared out the smuggler's cave near Seyda Neen then started to make my way to Pelagiad. The only thing I don't like is the compass letting you know you're near an undiscovered landmark from the Oblivion/Fallout engine was really nice and not having it sucks, and I guess it kinda sucks not having a journal with map markers. I am definitely having a lot of fun with this so far though, I like how just exploring off the beaten path has netted me some nice items already. Glad I decided to give this another chance.

    ugh... anyone know of any windows 7 issues with this game? I rested outside a cave and someone from the Dark Brotherhood attacked me, but for whatever reason every mesk for their armor was missing so they were just a floading yellow diamond. I've read some stuff about installing to C:/Morrowind instead of C:/Program Files etc but I couldn't figure out how to change the install directory. Any tips? Do I have to install again or can I just find the files I need somewhere?

    edit: also in case anyone needs a map this one is awesome:

    Anyone know which house is the best to join? Hlaalu, Redoran, or Vwhatever? I play a mage character but the mage house seems evil, seems like Hlaalu would be the best to join but I don't wanna go screwing myself over later with trainers and merchants.

    This game is fucking amazing. The one thing I don't like is that NPCs in houses/shops don't move around that much so it's nearly impossible to pickpocket as well as you could in oblivion. Do you ever get an easy way to get 100% chameleon or something like the gray fox cowl that lets you rack up a bounty without repercussions for your character?

    Also how do you easily raise Enchant skill?

    I kinda hope Skyrim brings back Levitate and Jump/Slowfall. I think overall I like Morrowind's skill system slightly better than oblivion, mostly because you can get training more than 5 times per level.

    just playing the PC version of Morrowind, which I have tried 5 or 6 times to get into (on Xbox) but never could because it felt like such a step down from Oblivion. With the mods and stuff listed here: http://morrowind2009.wordpress.com/ it looks pretty damn good, at least good enough that I'm finally hooked after years of trying.

    I remember beating Morrowind to death and back in high school on the Xbox... probably logged a solid 200 hours on the game. This was a long time ago so don't remember the specifics but I figured out that creating the worst character statistically possible and choosing the worst skills actually allowed you to level up more times than if you tried to actually pick logical skills (i.e. not choosing security and sneak for a thief). See below...

    Once you have reached 100 in all major and minor skills, you are at your character's maximum level, which varies depending on a few different factors. Major skills start out at 30 and minor skills start out at 15, which means you potentially have 775 skill increases that count towards level. However, most characters have additional bonuses to these skills at character creation, from specialty or race or birthsign. This makes those skills easier to use from the beginning, but limits the maximum level that the character can attain, which also limits the maximum amount of base health.

    For those who are wondering what some of us are on about, I found these screen shots in an old /v/ archive to show how seriously the graphics can be improved:

    Spoiler: show

    I haven't personally gotten mine that good, but seems to be possible to a degree.

    Hlaalu = Assasins
    Redoran = Warriors
    Other one = mages

    I personally choose Hlaalu when I play. Iirc The quests you do don't effect the other guilds and/or merchants except for mages guild/Fighters guild.

    If you really want 100% chameleon(Its completely broken and the game is no fun) you can abuse the shit out of alchemy. Make your INT around 1,000,000 through potions; then self enchant all your armor with as much stuff as you want.

    Note: Enchant skill can be 1 and you'll be successful because the governing attribute is INT. Also while your INT is that high make yourself some spd/str/lck/etc and have some fun. All your super potions will also be worth a shit load of money so you can also become rich very easily.

    Damn the game looks nice, I want to download and install now... I remember playing it at my friends house on his XBOX when I was in like middle school maybe, but I didn't have my own XBOX so I never got very far just stealing stuff from the intro area lol.

    I do remember there was a way to fly though and it bothered me that Oblivion didn't have a similarly deep potion/spell system, Oblivion was so neutered in my opinion, which is one of the reasons I hated it.

    The link Atreides posted has it all and good instructions, I downloaded all the required mods and the folder is 783 MB, going to go through and install it all today sometime.

    Installed them all and got some errors, game looks awesome but there is an invisible wall blocking both the NPC Guard and me from entering the office at the very beginning of the game. Giving up for now.

    Oh well, if there's any problems with the '09 guide I'll try the '11.

    I have just finished installing Morrowind 2011 after uninstalling the 2009 guide. Here's what I found:

    1: Took a fraction of the time to install everything.
    2: Graphically it is significantly better, I'd provide screenshots but its pretty much identical to the video above. If you know what you're doing with MGE however, it *might* be possible to make 2009 look as good as this.
    3: I have encountered some errors and crashes already, but that might just be Morrowind hating me as per usual, I can't quite tell.
    4: It has replaced my crosshair with some faggotry star symbol and I haven't figured out where in the directory it is to change it back yet.

    IMO unless you're well into a current game using a 2009 mod combination or similar scenario, I suggest trying 2011 out.

    the 2009 guide has you download an older version of MGE with fewer options. If you tweak it (and use distant land) you can still get nice water reflections and animated grass, but there's still a few textures I'd like to replace (Swamps still look horrible, for example) with the 2011 version. Oddly enough even with everything turned all the way up there's still almost no framerate hit on my pc even now that Im down to 2gb RAM. I'm decently far (lots of quests done in Vivec/Ebonheart/Suran/Balmora/Caldera, just working in Ald'ruhn now) but I still have a looooong way to go so I might just bite the bullet and reinstall (again) with the 2011 guide next week.

    soooo now the main quest is taking me to Maar Gan, but I have soooo much shit left to do in places I haven't been yet like Gnaar Mok and Maar Gan, and Sadrith Mora. Anyone got any tips on what to do? Should I go to Sadrith Mora and get rid of another big town/city to explore?

    Anyone know a checklist of quests? Hate to think I'm missing something. When I played oblivion I literally visited every single cave/dungeon/ruin so I'll probably try to do that in Morrowind, but I haven't been keeping a list of places I have/haven't been. Maybe I'll make one now lol

    I find new quests everytime I play, sometimes random huts in no-mans land will have them. Ald'ruhn, Sadrith Mora, and Balmora are the 3 main houses cities. Lots of quests in each, especially Sadrith Mora. Infact the entire Eastern Telvanni coast has quite a few quests. Dont forget to look into joining the temple/legion for more quests along with forts located outside the cities such as Moonmoth and.... that other one. When you're a high level you can consider starting daedric shrine quests.

    I personally do the main quest to a certain point after where you are, then start working on becoming master of each guild/faction. I suggest leaving Tribunal til later, and Bloodmoon to even later than that.
