Should probably make a Morrowind thread because we're not getting any Skyrim news until Thursday.

Grabbed all the posts that seemed morrowind related and put em here so yeah.
is there an infinite use lockpick in Morrowind like there was in Oblivion? Also I think in terms of gameplay systems I like the way morrowinds leveling works more than Oblivion, and the way enchanted items recharge slowly is awesome too. I don't really understand the enchanting system, I mean I'm kinda hazy overall but for whatever reason trying to enchant a glass sword in morrowind results in an item with a lot smaller charges than ebony/daedric.
ooh is there something akin to the gray fox cowl in this?
p.s. I hate the way morrowind handles constant effect enchantments on armor/accessories too![]()
Does that graphic mod pack affect the core game at all? Basically, I wouldn't mind actually beating Morrowind for once, but I prefer the core gameplay to still be vanilla, which I know a lot of the popular Oblivion mods liked to muck with.
Going to try 2011 since 2009 was major fail when I tried.
Don't bother with the 2011 guide, the guy wrote it using some shitty beta version of MGE which crashes for like 99% of users. I would downgrade to 3.8 but the instructions vary and I wanted the full experience. Oh well.
Guess it's a sign not to bother.
No infinite lockpick, Skeleton Key is out there but still has limited uses. Nothing akin to the Grey Fox's Cowl. Daedric always has the highest enchant rating. I dont understand why you dont like the enchant system considering it has everything Oblivion had and then more. Where as Oblivion was constant effects on armours, and on strike with weapons. Morrowind has both for either, and then use on touch/target ontop of that. I guess you are limited on enchant for each weapon, but I suppose that was to prevent you giving a iron dagger a fire damage effect of 60 when it only hits for about 3 damage itself.
Answering some of Atreides questions. Like other people said, I'd stop the main quest for now and go work on one of the houses/guilds for a while. To keep track of what dungeons, caves, etc you've been in I find it handy to make a note on the ingame map next to the dungeon once I've "cleared" it. If I remember right you just double click where you want to make notes, or maybe there's a button that says "marker" or something. If you can find this http://www.amazon.com/Morrowind-Prop...4249242&sr=8-1 somewhere for cheap it's really well written and has guides to every quest in the game I think, even the really obscure stuff. It's probably the best done guide for a game I've ever seen.
To make an infinite use lockpick you can probably enchant something with open lock 100 on touch. couple tips on enchanting, buff your int up crazy with potions before you enchant and it won't fail. Also, the higher your enchant skill the faster your items recharge.
I think I'll give the 2011 guide a couple weeks before I try it and let him work some bugs out. It looks like he's still tweaking it.
the 2009 guide still looks pretty fucking fantastic, especially if you go for the MGE settings he advocates in the 2011 guide. The only textures I'd like to replace are swamps, which still look like pools of last-gen baby vomit, and maybe a way of making vivec/cave style architecture look a little more snazzy.
And yea basically the way I've been playing (and the way I played Oblivion/Fallout, for that matter) is I go to a new town/city, then explore every house (stealing lots of stuff lol) and talk to every NPC and pick up what quests I can, then I usually travel between places on foot and clear every dungeon/cave I come across.
Currently I'm decently far along in quests for the Mages Guild, Fighter's Guild, Thieves Guild, Morag Tong, Imperial Cult, and I think that's it. My next goal is a trip over to Gnisis to join the Imperial Legion as well as starting on the last set of mages guild quests in Sadrith Mora. I guess I need to get started on that horrible seven shrine pilgrimage quest but it seems exceedingly tedious lol. I guess I'll go after Azura's star too.
It's really tempting to use the console to give myself more Summon Golden Saint scrolls to work on Enchanting but I'm waiting til I have a sizeable amount of Ash Yams/Netch Leather to fortify my INT. So far I've only used the console to get a few crappy books needed for quests when I was lazy, and the gold necessary to buy the Private Mobile Base. Also I somehow got my Alchemy to 100 very quickly even though it wasn't a major/minor skill just from picking up every ingredient I came across and mixing them together lol
edit: oh and in case anyone was wondering my skill build:
Spoiler: show
Oh and I guess it's semi-bending the rules that I use that infinite gold NPC in the little room the MCP creates beneath Seyda Neen to sell all my shit. I have like 300k gold just from making trips back and forth, lol
edit edit: oh and I REALLY miss infinite-space containers like in oblivion![]()
Theres a mage at the top of Tel Branora which sells the spell summon golden saint, I'm sure you can figure it out from there. I always steal the Winged Twilight gem in Balmora mages guild and use that as the enchantment for the item.
What are some good guides for Morrowind, I have no idea what skills to get, how stats work, how to enchant, what are soulstones for, etc.
I really like my build, since I tend to make all-around characters that can do a lot of fighting and magic, as well as high speechcraft and high security so I can steal stuff. I posted my build above but if I could start all over I'd do this:
Major: Long Blade (or whatever weapon you want), Security, Stealth, Destruction, Restoration
Minor: Alteration, Illusion, Mysticism, Enchant, Speechcraft
Remember that you can always get a trainer to up your skills if they're lacking, unlike Oblivion you can train as many times as you want per level. I would definitely recommend against taking Alchemy as a major/minor skill, you can raise it really quickly if you just pick up random ingredients as you dungeon crawl and mix everything together. My Alchemy is 100 and none of my major/minor skills have gotten over 80 yet lol. But yeah, between skill books, trainers, and actual skill increases it's definitely possible to get all your skills to 100.
How to get started... well that's really up to you. Walk around Seyda Neen and talk to people, tehre's a few quests you can flag. You can also explore outside of town and find some decent gear, or work on the main quest which will take you to Pelagiad and then to Balmora. I don't know if I'd follow a guide, since the whole idea of ES games is that you can do whatever you want whenever you want, but http://www.uesp.net/wiki/ will have what you need if you're just looking for info on a specific quest/item/npc.
Oh and you can find a full neat map here, it's what I've been using to find dungeons to explore:

The wiki has a decent article on enchanting that should sorta explain how it all works too.
Yeah fuck it, not even MGE 3.8 works it keeps saying unable to find screen resolution registry and crashes when I try to set it. Fuck this, I've tried three separate times, all these guides blow.
Funny you should mention that, the MGE only lets me run it in my native desktop resolution 2048x1152, if I try to lower it I get a crash on load. I dont get your error message though.
what the fuck I keep finding factions to join, just did the Imperial Legion and now there's some sub-faction with this Thieves Guild dude in Vivec, and everyone has all sorts of quests for me. To be honest I'm getting REALLY overwhelmed by all the shit I have to do, even with the multiple pads I'm jotting notes on, but I guess that feeling is why I loved Oblivion and Fallout so much.
The Private Mobile Base someone recommended is awesome btw, I love how it has a huge showroom where you can put out all your nice weapons/armor on display.
Is there a restore magicka spell btw? Constant effect enchantments in this game are so fucking weak btw![]()
apparently the Morrowind 2011 is gonna be hard to find because the guy who compiled it didn't ask all the modders for permission and now they're all butthurt and blocking it or something
I never found the constant effect enchants too bad in the game. You can make yourself invincible with enough constant effect Santuary, or make yourself 100% invisible all the time with enough constant effect Chameleon. Unlike Oblivion, in this game you can wear clothes under your armor, and a robe over your armor, so find some clothing to get the max enchant possibilities. The highest teir armors (Glass, Orcish, and Daedric) and any clothing/jewelry with the exquisite modifier have the best enchant points. If your character is mainly melee, there are some pretty good unique armors in the game (especially heavy) that have great constant effects already on them, but many are thoroughly hidden.
for whatever reason Glass doesnt seem to have that much enchant points to it. In fact, with a golden saint grand soul gem the max charge is only like 15. You can get water breathing just fine on a glass helm, but I think you need to use Daedric/Orcish if you want better constant effect armor (and weapon, for that matter) enchants. I think even ebony weapons are better for enchanting than glass.
edit: yeah, Glass is 15, Orcish is 30, Ebony is 50, and Daedric is 75 for helmets for example (actually Telvanni Cephalopod Helms have 100 and are light armor)
looks like I have lots of work to do, raising my heavy armor skill and tracking down a full daedric set and enchanting some shit. I still dont have the Summon Golden Saint spell but I haven't done much exploring of the Telvanni towns
sooooo is there a console command to permanently increase your max mp? Mine is only 100 (playing as imperial) and things like Summon Golden Saint cost 165 MP. I could enchant some gear to have Fortify Magicka but even an Exquisite Shirt will only get me about 20 MP so I'll have to enchant multiple pieces. I mean I guess that's the goal, a full set of gear enchanted with Fortify Magicka (or Intelligence) and Strength, otherwise I'm just going to use the console to give myself a bunch of golden saint scrolls when I start enchanting.
I should have picked a High Elf or Redguard if I wanted to do a mage, I guess
edit: oh I guess it's player->SetMagicka 300 or something along those lines. I guess if I just give myself a huge MP pool I can spend my enchants on stuff like permanent Chameleon and Water Breathing effects. Does having Light on you make it harder to steal like it did in Oblivion?
Also, morrwind speed run!
