No it's not, its a very valid argument but for reasons very different than what I assume you think makes it an invalid argument.

Nonpsycotic people + pot = Non-catastrophic reaction. If you don't have any severe mental issues you know the drill. It doesn't make you want to cock punch a baby because the baby is crying.

Psycotic person + pot = potential for raging lunatic. Pot can severly influence someone with a mental disease like schizophrenia or psyco effective disorder in a very bad way. I'd love to find a link, but google just brings up a bunch of finger pointing of people trying to claim pot causes the disorders (and I'm lazy). Having an immediate family member who's dealt with this, and knowing others through him though I have seen first hand that it is a dramatic shift in personality, attitude and logic when you combine these 2. Basically instead of making decisions based the on consequencese you start making decisions based on what you want/believe without regard to the consequences.

A person under the influene of anything with a mental disorder can become violent, and the effects of the drug can last much longer than on someone without their problems. Throw in if the person is on meds like seroquel and some people can become incredibly fucked up over realitively small drug use.

So blaming this on weed and weed alone, yeah thats silly.
Blaming it on a psycotic person, under the influence? Yeah, thats plausible.

Are you seriously fucking suggested a THC-induced psychosis caused this kid to go out and shoot a woman point blank in the fucking face?

Get the fuck out of this topic. You have nothing further to contribute.

On-topic: What the fuck. Sarah Palin and all the other people, regardless of if they are responsible for it or not, need to go out and tell people they need to do things democratically like we're supposed to instead of inciting violence. This is only going to get worse with time (and seemingly is already doing so).

Alternatively, people should just stop listening to Sarah Palin at all.

No, that's not what I meant at all. I was just pointing out that the effects of the drug on a normal person vs. a person with neurological problems is not the same. Do you disagree with that? If so, you're a fucking idiot. Fuck.

It really depends on the neurological problem. Sociopathic or psychotic tendencies are emotional imbalances that are not neurological problems. Chemical imbalances are neurological problems. This is like claiming that depression always requires medication. Not all cases of depression are caused by chemical misfires in your brain.

To address what you said, THC has the exact same effect on a normal person that it would on a stupid depressed angsty fuck who listens to Palin and Fox News. It certainly has the same effect on somebody with a neurological disorder, though with different results. I don't disagree with your logic, because you are technically correct. When you get into more detail, such as this asshole's actions, you are wrong. This is just a case of a shitheaded person who allowed himself to be brainwashed by stupidity.

Marijuana is a red herring that will most certainly be used as a scapegoat since nobody wants to actually take responsibility for what the fuck they're influencing people to do these days.

Kuro mostly I agree with you, but some people with mental issues get really messed up by weed.

If this guy was able to function day to day without being labeled with a disorder its very likely that you are spot on. If he was on the path to a more severe illness, its possible he smoked himself stupid. As someone else said, who knows what all was in what he was using? If it was only weed? This is AZ, our friend Crystal could very well have been in the picture.

There's so many 'what if's' with all the different things you could say influenced him that just one isn't going to be the cause. Your right that we shouldn't be trying to figure out what to blame it on, I think far to many things happen now adays because we find cause outside of "because I want this". I'd like to know more about what/who motivated his actions, because most of what I've seen so far he doesn't affiliate himself with any one group. I think finding out what made him think this would be good will reveal what, if anything is to blame.

What exactly does "same effects, though different results" mean to you? I'll admit there's no definitive link between marijuana use and increased neurological issues, however the evidence mounted on this subject is staggering. It's almost impossible to claim otherwise. And this isn't talking about the "high", I specifically said side-effects.

Also I don't know if you're claiming this kid doesn't have neurological problems or what, but that was obviously my stance from the start. We'll see in the upcoming weeks, but seriously do you really doubt that this kid suffers from some form of schizophrenia? I think that's a safer assumption then claiming he's some right-wing commando going after Sarah Palin's targets. Again we'll see, just making assumptions at this point...

The effects of THC are that they bind certain receptors within the brain, causing a myriad of results. This can come in the form of mellowness (which is probably more than 90% of the cases) to anxiety, paranoia, euphoria, and whichever else, depending on the chemical makeup of a person's brain.

The reason why I say that mild states of depression or angst (which are common in people) do not feel these effects is because these are temporary states of mind. Serious illnesses such as chronic depression (or other states that alter the interaction between drug and its receptor) are much more permanent and are more likely to cause the less likely result. On the other hand, while it's likely that certain mental conditions can result in excess receptor-drug relationships, it's also equally likely (albeit less prevalent) that these same conditions can result in a no-receptor-drug relationship or a depressed receptor-drug relationship.

tl;dr - Neurological problems can either enhance, disable, or have no effect on drugs depending on which one it is. Even if this kid is shown to have a mental problem, marijuana itself is not the problem nor should it be made the problem. He would have been equally likely to do something stupid had he been under the influence of anything similar (including alcohol).

Now, while the Tea Partiers are idiots, judging from his youtube vids, this guy is just insane. Schizo, paranoid. Frankly, it seems he mostly did it for attention.

Thought this was interesting, interview with Giffords on March 25th about the Palin Targeted list.

"We're on Sarah Palin's targeted list, but the thing is, the way she has it depicted is that it has the crosshairs of a gunsight over our district. When people do that they've gotta realize there's consequences to that action"

Doesn't really matter if Loughner is a right wing nutjob/terrorist/extremist/TeaPartier; Palin's rhetoric is not ok.
It may or may not have led to her shooting, but it almost certainly led to the front door of Giffords' office to be shot/destroyed after hours and slurs/hateful calls/emails. None of that has any place in civilized politics and is unacceptable no matter what ideology you support.

So why does this have to be weed's fault? Or Palin's faught? Why cant it just be this guys own fault? Why not blame the shooter?
