Don't buy dre. Bass is nice but they are not rich ebnough imho.
Skullcandy is shit.
I remember when someone told me that the standard IPod earbuds were good. I more or less walked away.
I recall hearing something about noise cancelling headphones and headsets not being good for your ears.
honestly, if you're going lower-midrange and akg, I prefer the akg K 142 HDs. akgs don't really favor brassy tones though, which seems more up OP's alley. senns for a well-roudned sound or ultrasones for a rich bass, might be more what he's looking for.
the reason no audiophile is going to pick noise-cancelling is because they modify the wave pattern of the music against the exterior noise.

these are on sale for 15 bux, gud buy?
it's not even that they hurt your ears, it's that they use basic wave mechanics to cancel outside noise. they read external sound, and overlay the inverse of those waves on the sound they produce. the waves cancel out, thus noise cancelling, but it damages the integrity of the music in a really significant way. they're great for airplanes and such but nothing else.
Never bothered with them. Tell you what I love though. Fancy headphones 128kbps rip. 192v0 rip is the way to go imho. Any higher and you are deluding yourself. Any lower and you can hear the difference. If you use flac for anything other than archiving, you should be shot. CBR are a tad annoying at times I've found.
please don't buy yourself a pair of Dr. Dre branded headphones which are marginally more useful than regular earbuds but cost 10x as much. Here's what I use:

if you don't mind large headphones, I recommend them.
what I don't get are people with FLAC of fucking standup.
128kbps? below standard? I'm shocked you can't hear the difference bwteen 128 and 320 at the very least... I agree flac is silly except for archival purposes, not because you can't hear the difference (because you can) but because it's such a difficult format to use. lossless isn't worth it after a certain point because it's so inconvenient :/
Gotta hear the nigga in the back heckling, duh
Actually. I don't really notice above 192v0.
Vbr is my butter.
