Been having a few issues with new desktop.

Since I got it, it's been doing one of two things every so often: either randomly restarting on it's own, or the mouse/keyboard freezing up so that I can't do anything but force restart it myself. For the latter programs are still running just fine, I just can't get the mouse/kb to work unless I reboot.

The thing is it's only happened when I'm actually doing something once or twice. Every other time it's when the computer is completely idle or doing almost nothing. Has been happening 0-2 times a day, probably once a day average over the last 25 days.

And I just came home from work to it sitting with this screen up. First time for this:

Any ideas on what might be causing these things? Mostly the random restarts -.- it usually happens when i'm asleep or at work anyway, but still annoying.

    windows 7 home premium
    intel i7 870
    radeon hd 5770
    8 gb ram

dunno what other specs might be relevant, if any

Looking up your error this is what I found:
Some of you may have been stunned when you suddenly got a blue screen error that says "Irql_not_less_or_equal". A windows blue screen appears with that exact message and in an instant your machine crushes, forcing you to reboot. The blue screen of death (BSOD) error is either caused by a buggy device driver or a hardware problem. There are a myriad of reasons why this problem occurs.

The first cause of this problem is that your computer may have overheated too much. Check whether your computer temperature is too high and as a remedy have a cooling fan fixed to it.

However, the major cause for your computer showing such a blue screen error Irql_Not_Less_Or_Equal may have to do with your Windows registry, especially the HAL (Hardware abstraction layer). The HAL is a process in the windows registry that is designed to act as the communication link between the drivers and the hardware. When your registry is corrupted, HAL's communication with the hardware is hampered. This causes your computer to hang and give you the BSOD error. This problem requires a rather talented geek to solve it but with a bit of hard work and luck you could as well solve it. As a first step, scan your computer with a registry repair program that is able to fix problems in the HAL layer. Also, if have loaded a new device driver, you could try to remove it and see if the problem goes away or persists.
Based on that and since you said this is a new computer, i would pop open your box and reseat all of the components in your computer. Also, after reseating everthing, update all of your drivers. If after this you're still receiving problems, you could potentially have a hardware problem.

Reading the BSOD my first inclination would have been a memory issue like Mafai has referenced - Try running MEMTEST one stick at a time and see what your results are.

Also, is this a prebuild or did you build this yourself?
