Looking at an interview with Vanille's English voice actor a few months ago, she said she was specifically told to act that way by SE employees. Considering I believe it was her first major VA role, she really wasn't that bad.

It's more of a fault SE wanting the character to be portrayed that way not the VA, although I will admit that around the beginning, she definitely didn't sound that good. However she did get better the further into the game you got if you paid attention.

You're out of luck then because the sole reason Lightning sets off after the ending of FFXIII is to rescue Fang and Vanille.

Ditch both Hope and Vanille and make Sazh the main character.

I'm just glad my first language isn't English, makes those names seem a bit less cheesy. "Eclaire" was it? I wish they'd used that instead.

I was pretty indifferent to Sazh. His English VA sounded bored/emotionless. Japanese VA was much better imo.

I've never imagine a voice actor getting fucked during the recording session more than with whoever did Vanille. Christ, the game was embarrassing to play with other people around at some points.

Vanille's voice was a bit annoying for me starting off too. But I eventually grew accustomed to it. I don't like it, but I liked her character so I was able to forgive/look past it.

FFXIII did have a happy ending for Lightning. It was Fang / Vanilla who had the sad, yet happy, ending. But in 13 Lightning set out to rescue her sister and she did just that in the end.

And Sazh was meh. His comic relief early on was okay, then he got all BAWWWWW MY SON and became sort of unimportant towards the end. Plus his base stats are just horrible, he's pretty much just a RIC trigger.

I threw up when I reached this part of the game. I was completely blind sided, before that she was bearable but I wanted to stab myself after it.
