FF6 and FFT had the best endings for me, 6 went through every character to close it out and FFT you just sorta felt sad the way that game ended in a tragic way.

Endings are cliche and overused? What a stupid thing to say.
Old FFs do have terrible endings, but the best of them made a strong effort to let you know what happens after you beat the final boss. They took the time to write individual sign-offs for as many significant characters as possible, and they did so without scribbling it all into some in-game databook. XIII's ending is amongst the weakest of the bunch, period.
Co-signing XIII's ending.
Very rushed and didn't feel satisfying.
For the English version's case, it was even worst to suddenly (although we heard it before from the trailer) "My Hands" playing, it's literally out of no where as it was not based on any of the game's motifs, whereas the Japanese one was in a similar boat, at least it sounded a bit similar/same style to the game's soundtrack.
Nah, to keep with my Gears 2 example, if I was under the impression they made that ending shit on purpose only to add more to the ending in planned DLC later I would be equally pissed.
Still didn't finish :/ damn final bosses are making me spam items, so decided to level some jobs a bit more. Blood damage not fully removed when using the item for it 1 time is annoying when you eat too much aoe's.
Honestly I'm just pissed off that I had the ending spoiled because people in this thread couldn't keep their mouths shut about it. Spoil talk about the game's story, seriously even if it's just shit like 'cliffhanger!' because that shit is annoying.
FF8 was the best ending for me.. good or bad, it just seemed very complete. it covered all the story arcs in some way, and basically hit home all the overarching themes of the game.. you have closure on pretty much everything.
even though they don't cover what happens to every character, it doesn't really matter because its mostly implied and fits well. the direction was also very nicely done.
also one of the rare feel-good happy endings left in FF.
FF9 was pretty good too. but if i say i've already forgotten half of it, i might not build a very convincing case lol.
Don't get me wrong, I always look forward to the ending and I haven't found any of them to be terrible, but when I look back I can't help but notice that my previous description is surprisingly accurate (final boss exploding > dungeon collpasing > calamity > DEM > sacrifices and/or partings > happy ending).
It's not that the new FFs have worse endings than the old ones, they've always been like that. The only difference is that new ones leave the doors open to sequels. If they didn't do it, the ending would just be a rehash of an older FF and that would be worse, not better.
Dude, seriously?
Everything concerning the actual ending has been spoilered pages ago. Since I didn't look at them you know as little as I do about the actual ending. If words like 'to be continued' or 'cliffhanger' make you rage already, I suggest playing some of the good trilogy/sequel games out there, which as pointed out, doesn't have to make a bad ending for the game in the middle.
They are making the ending bad, so they can sell a new ending on DLC
adding absolutely nothing worthwhile to discussion but venting frustration:
Well, I am certainly glad I gave into temptation to read this thread, cancelled my pre-order of crystal edition.
I've seen a lot of "bad" DLC, but assuming this is accurate, it might just take the proverbial cake.
(edit: I'll probably cave in to fanboy'ism and get regular edition somewhere down the road, but I'll feel a lot less good about it)
I liked 8's because it was just so much more in-depth than 7's (really, really hate 7's ending). It was still confusing and pretty stupid with everything involving Squall and time KOMPRESSION, but it had nice moments (Laguna) and the music was great. The ending scene filmed on the camera was a nice touch, but it wasn't really closure for the main characters (none of it really was except for Squall and Rinoa). We see them in a similar environment doing things we would expect and there isn't much progression there.
I liked 8's ending, but it was coming off the back of concepts and storytelling that I thought were stupid.
Well wait a minute, i thought this was just a rumor/joke. Is the real ending to FFXIII-2 really going to be pay for dlc?
And how does this supposed to help with repairing the damaged brand name?
I liked the twist on Tactics ending. It was a nice departure from the 'happily ever after' cliche that usually makes up the end of a Final Fantasy.
Ramza lived!
Ramza died!
Who cares. Ramza's efforts were forgotten to the pages of history, the one guy that tried to chronicle your adventure was burned at the stake and your morally bankrupt friend takes the throne as King after backstabbing everyone to climb from commoner to monarch.
Only SE would go from offering 0 DLCs for the first game to straight up to the other end of the spectrum offering an unfinished game![]()
