I considered the ultimate fate in the XIII universe that the world would be destroyed, sooner or later. This is the vibe I got from XIII-2. Cocoon falling failed, so Caius stepped in with a new plan. He mentions somewhere in the game that Cocoon not falling caused Yuel great pain (one's fortune is another's tragedy he says) so he goes out of his way to make it happen anyway. Whatever methods he uses to get to that point including killing himself just adds more to the fun imo. So yeah, he wins =)

Technically it all started with the fal'Cie trying to defy their fate by bringing down Cocoon (bringing the Maker back). Of course their attempt defying fate was defied by Vanille and Fang's sacrifice...

...which may or may not be defied by Caius defying Yuel's fate by merging time.

@Burningthought: Probably. Still though, at least it's less grindy which is good enough. FFXIII's hour count was really inflated due to the grind (30-45 story game but if you want to platinum, that's around 60+ hours worth of grinding).

Though I would definitely not mind a balance between the two. Something like FFX with Monster Arena grind (variety of monsters to fight in one easy place) was something I was fine with/liked.

Slow. A friend of mine completed everything (platinum'd) in less than 2 days.

Stuff may not matter after maxing everything now but with DLC it's now possible for them to add in new super bosses kinda like how they used to do it with "international versions"

Havent really spoiled myself that much so far but I also do hope that the events of xiii2 doesn't downplay the significance of XIII or it's struggles..
Then again, I'm well aware that XIII2 wouldn't have happened if XIII didn't end the way it did

Hmmm, yea lots of defying fate in these games lol. Though didn't the Fal'Cie in XIII consider it fate that Cocoon had to be destroyed? Orphan had to die to bring balance back to the world. Which was why Fang and Vanille got their focus from Anima, a Pulse Fal'Cie. Cocoon Fal'Cie seemed to accept this fate, because as you said it would bring back the maker (or so they thought) which would restore the balance. I should add I'm going from memory here, so I might remember it wrong.

In XIII the crew went looking for ways to defy fate or at least talked about it (and then Fang and Vanille ninja'd it in at the very end). I had no moments of that in XIII-2, they didn't listen to Caius halfway in the game, they didn't go looking, didn't talk about it (yea blabla we make a new future, standard protaganist bullshit), they did exactly what he wanted and at the end of the game they get what's coming =D

Well, if you considered XIII unfinished, then this will equally annoy you, but in a slightly different way (not saying more unless you want it, because then this would actually be a proper spoiler), especially with the whole "to be continued" thing which didn't have to be there imo. Would have been fine to me if they left it hanging after XIII-2's ending with no "to be continued" to be found lol.

I think alot of the fanboy crying comes from people who expected something completely else from this game's story and ending. Partially SE's own fault because of what they said in the past about this game and what they did with the marketing.

At least Lightning is hardly as awesome as Snake and Serah/Noel aren't on complete opposite side of the spectrum like Raiden. Expendable...but that's how I feel about Lightning. I'm equally indifferent towards them.

So it was a proper ending (like XIII's) but they put the TBC there anyway? Jesus christ what about the brand image!

So people here say Lightning gets maybe less than 30 mins of screentime (which 15/20 are from the Intro) -- I don't get it, SE says they want to expand her and how a while ago a teaser poster/video is released about how "she must not be forgotten" but yet they only give us around 30mins (and as far as I can tell on this thread, she is more or less unplayable) of her only in a sequel?

Before, I actually had fantasies (lol) of Lightning maybe joining the main party as a 3rd playable character (replacing the pokemon) for a decent sized portion of the game before leaving for plot reasons. The idea was that, when she joins, she would be significantly more powerful than Serah/Noel/Pokemon (similar to: FF6: Leo, FF7: Sephrioth during Flashback sequence, FF8: Seifer/Edea (depending on how much you grinded), FF9: Beatrix, FF10: Seymour, FF11: Campaign Generals) and use flashy attacks and generally be an 1-person-army.

I don't think that bas been confirmed? We've just seen a teaser of her appearing in the arena where you fight Omega afaik, so I guess that's where the assumption came from.

In that same trailer they confirmed (with text) that she'll be an arena battle just like Omega and in older interviews they said that every single "monster" made available through DLC will have to be fought there first.

SE wants to try and make Lightning available in the monster thing. They basically said DLC wise they want to try and do whatever fans want, a lot of people were requesting Lightning in your party so I guess it's coming to fruition.

Is anyone getting Release Day Delivery for the PS3 Collector's Edition on Amazon? I've been checking the past couple of days and the PS3 version appears to be the only version that doesn't have the option for release day shipping. It's kind of annoying since I may end up having to go through Gamestop instead of I can't get it until the end of the week. For whatever reason even two day shipping doesn't have it getting to me until Friday and one day has it getting to my house on Thursday.
