Day one purchase for me (Collectors Edition). I feel like XIII is the weakest game in the series (first half of the game was a chore, second half was fun). Also, I don't feel like going through 50 pages, but serious question for people who felt XIII was a really weak effort on S-E's part: Are you still going to play XIII-2? Day one purchase?
Day one Gamefly for me... >.> Just finished XIII after sitting on the 12th chapter for almost a year.
Liked XIII, and XIII-2 seems to be addressing the gripes I did have with the first, already preordered the collector's edition game/guide.
Day one for me, provided i can get off work for it..
I liked XIII to be honest, tho the battles did get a bit more tedious later on. My main gripe is that endgame was badly designed and ultimate weapons were beyond pointless.. The hardest boss was kind of a pushover and the only difficulty was farming for Gil which wasn't really hard, just long and boring...
I was kinda hoping the endgame would finish off with a climatic battle against an optional Superboss, but there was no closure for me. Didn't bother leveling up the final form weapons anyway. Just platinum'd
Sorry for not elaborating on my initial comment... I just feel like IX was the last FF where I honestly gave a shit about the characters/storyline. Thats not to say that the characters/storyline in X and XII were bad but they weren't as good as the games that came before. <--- again this is my opinion. I'm sure many disagree.
Day One Collector's Edition for me.
I feel the same way. IX was the last game in the series that I truly loved.
X, and XII were both really good games, but for some reason I didn't find myself caring about what happened to the characters. To XIIIs credit I do like Lightning/Sazh/Fang quite a bit.
I don't care how futuristic XV is, they just need to make more likeable characters. Just give me some characters that aren't annoying (Vaan/Tidus/Penello/Hope/etc) and give me some kind of optional content to give me a break from the main story and I'll be happy. I don't need airships, a worldmap, etc.
Day one Gamefly and I've been purchasing FFs since the age of being able to acquire currency.
Not buying it cause I'm broke, if I wasn't, would be buying it, but still haven't finished XIII, though I thought XIII was (as far as I am in it anyway) ok. I am a sucker for JRPGs though, and even more if it has the name Final Fantasy, so there's some bias there.

Apparently Lightning DLC soon, and new episodic DLC that continues/shows the background of the ending.
So we WILL get Lightning as a 3rd party member? Is the colosseum accessible@the start of the game? If so, this DLC needs to drop release day.
I think you have to unlock it going through the story, but the fights can be attempted once you get colosseum access. Winning them on the otherhand is a completely different matter.
ARE YOU FUCKING SHITTING ME. The Final Fantasy XIII Episode 1 Novella is a Best Buy Preorder.... Why the fuck isn't that being packaged with the CE or at least as a standalone purchase. This is fucking rage inducing.

Not to nitpick but how did Penelo annoy you? She was just there. She never whined, made cringeworthy lines or spoke in an unnatural tone of voice.
I liked her interactions with Larsa, they showed that she's a very level-headed character. Too bad that other than those she had next to no screentime.
ruumour
Square's telling us (Gamestop) that there's going to be a DLC released on Feb 10 to celebrate 1 million copies sold. The DLC will grant the "Suspiciously Familiar Necklace", which you can equip to "turn" your monster party member into Lightning. Basically, the necklace rips a version of Lightning through space-time to fight with you (in battles only, obviously).
There is also an untitled 13-2 release that is categorized as "EXPANSION" instead of DLC that is slated for April 2012.
I wouldn't expect much from lightning's colluseum capture, I expect shell be treated as a commando monster that swaps in and out san as the others (unless it gives you 6 lightnings, one for each paradigm...)
As for the other DLC, I find myself wondering whether to buy this game early or wait for some kind of complete version... I really don't like the principle of having to pay for more story that isn't just side knowledge (I feel that the dash chapter at least could've and should've been in the game to give it some proper side missions, not just kill/fetvh quests)
Didn't really like XIII, but will still play xiii-2, but am in no hurry to, cancelled crystal edition pre-order when the chaos about DLC started, no idea when I'll pick a regular edition up, probably after more is known about the full extent of DLC.
To a large extent, I am thinking along the same lines as Scythiroth, although, if I come across a fancy edition by random chance, I suspect resistance will be futile.
