Well I think there is a difference between ending being inconclusive with no apparent continuation in sight vs. ending being inconclusive with plans to expand on it in the near future.
Not that multiple saves are needed, because as mentioned you can and need to rewind chapters on one save anyway to complete the whole game.
Also lol @ IGN bitching about the ending. Sure, it leaves more room to expand upon than XIII did, but c'mon the ending is fine and dandy at what it is.
Only game my local gameshop would consider a midnight release for is bullshit like Modern Warfare :/ but I want my pre-order bonus pack so I pick it up during the day =)
I wonder if the bitching about the ending has solely to do with the mere existence of DLC or the to be continued line.
'Cause if so, that's retarded.
I would be surprised.
Also that IGN review was very well written. I'd like to comment on his remarks about the narrative, but i've only read fan translations of the more indepth stuff and I don't feel comfortable weighing with just that on my plate. I can say that XIII-2 follows the FNC very closely.
Played a little bit of the demo and all I can say was that I thought the battle system was incredibly boring. I didn't even feel like playing the rest of the demo after having gone through 5 fights.
They really needed to have done something different with the battle system. pets and QTEs were a step in the wrong direction. The biggest problem I had with the battle system in 13-1 was how auto-pilot it could be. Yeah you could do everything manually but even still, every single battle came down to using your optimum build and attacks to stagger then your optimum build and attacks to do damage. Now in this game they didn't change any of that, but then added QTEs and pets that you can't control in any way?
Cause' you never want to use your optimal build and attacks to try and weaken an enemy to defeat it, never that.
13 was your first game in the franchise? Just asking..
ok, it sounds stupidly, redundantly, obviously, simplistic when I say it that way
Ebgames : Hi (Enter name here) This is ebgames about your FFXIII-2 reservation
Me : OMG I CAN GO GET IT NOW???
Ebgames : No just a remember for tuesday
Me : Fuck ok fine lol
was playing it just now before my house party for about 2 hrs..
intro was pretty fun and easy to get into. i think my framerate dropped in the early battle with all the QTEs.. worried me abit, but after that it was fine.
was trying to be thorough.. so took me that 2hrs or so before i had access to the Historia Crux, which seems pretty fast to me. I definitely like the Historia Crux layout. It really shows you everything clearly.. and compartmentalizes the timezones will, kinda a bit like KH1's world map. I kinda like how you progressively unlock timezones in the game, but not necessarily in a linear way.
Voice acting is fine. NORA's dialogue feels very T for teen, but JRPGs have always to be been kid friendly. They fill in the gaps between XIII and XIII-2 very quickly and clearly, which is something I quite like.
Some battles seem like a drag, but with the general battle system being laid out pretty early on, its more engaging than say chapter 1 of XIII.
Liking it a lot so far. Am thinking I'm going to need to reply chapters again pretty often to get the novelty equipment and what appears to be unique rewards from Live Trigger based on what you choose.
I also like Live Trigger a lot. reminds me of old school PC puzzle adventures and adventure RPGs, especially given that some options are silly
Careful! the fanboys will brand you a heretic around these parts for such comments!
I played the demo, was a pretty big meh, liked the actual town interaction, Serah sounds like she's going to piss me off in this game whenever I get around to actually playing it a few months from now. I don't intend to buy it anytime soon.
Got Thursday & Friday off, let's hope gamefly sends it out Monday.
Several new reviews have been released, game seems to be a solid 8/10.
Gamespot's review (7.5/10) is particularly interesting as they actually praise the story and the main characters (especially Caius) unlike most of them.
Edit: gametrailers also praises the story and they gave it a 8.8.
Looks like this is going to be another polarizing FF entry.
