I think the point is that if there's an ending that gives some sort of conclusion to the story and the only reason to complain is the "To be continued" line it's a stupid complaint.
I don't think reviews should get higher scores because the game is getting expanded soon enough but this ending deal is getting out of hand. We honestly don't know the pricing or actually any detail regarding DLC and I keep seeing crybabies saying that SE is charging for the ending...
Most act like SE is gonna release a CG cutscene for 5$ and that's it.
Reviews are based on the game that's sitting on their desk, not based on future content. What ur asking for is stupid... There is no reason this title should get special treatment. For all u know the real ending that's gonna be DLC may be retarded and not an actual ending also. So again, why should they review something NOT based on what the public is getting in 2 days?
We get it, ur butt hurt. Get over it, mmo's don't even get the special treatment u are asking a single player rpg to get
I don't even understand why people care about what some hack says about the game when it gets reviewed, is it going to stop you from buying the game? Is it going to ruin your experience with the said game? I think people made their minds up about whether or not they were going to buy this game when it was first announced. 13 was bad, SE even admits it as much by saying "we wanted to correct the bad mistakes we made, here's a "more polished version where we hope we have fixed our fans gripes" thus 13-2 is created.
Lets be real, 13 was not the most well-received installment of the series but did that stop it from selling well? Nope, did the reviews make any bit of difference once so ever? Nope. People are going to buy SE's games no matter what because they're fans, a review isn't going to ever stop them. If I was a big fan of 13 this would be a day 1 buy for me, no questions asked and no review would be able to sway my opinion differently.
Need more proof?
FFXIV got the worst slam possible by every reviewer in existence after beta ended and people still bought CE's that they pre-ordered way before the alpha/beta debacles, seems like reviews didn't matter much then either. I'll even do one better, some reviewers STILL slam 14 when they revisit it every couple of patches, you think thats going to stop the 2.0 hype? fuck no.
I agree, reviewers are supposed to be 100% objectionable, state what they like and don't like, future content should have no bearing on the current product.
If I was reviewing the game I would give it a score but promise to revisit with each DLC portion, it should be treated as an MMO patch review from there on imo.
I don't think you've read my post. I said that reviews should NOT account future DLC in their scores but a game getting a lower score because the ending says "To be continued" is just as stupid.
Should they also lower their scores for other games that imply a sequel like the newest Resident Evil game? Most games heavily imply that more is coming but that doesn't make them horrible in any way.
Like I said the only reason everyone is crying is because SE decided to actually put that line on the screen. Had they decided to instead add this information in a dialogue (with a character saying "It's not over yet" or something like that) most wouldn't even mention the ending because every game does this in one form or another.
Heck I don't remember anyone flipping over that scene in FFX where Tidus is coming out of the water after the ending of the game.
Games are created with a "To be continued" ending in mind, always. Companies are constantly trying to start new franchises and in one way or another they do plan sequels ahead of time.
The difference is that old school FF fanboys can't get over the fact that SE is trying this approach with the franchise while they've never released a true sequel in like 20 years.
It makes sense at this point really. It would have made sense back in 1997 actually... SE can't just keep throwing around more roman numerals and throwaway universes every few years like they did in the past..
Although I'd say they are still struggling in finding the right approach. I think these are very important times for the franchise as a whole, and they haven't done as good of a job at it so far than they would have to to sell the new approach to us. Yet it's something that needs to happen one way or the other. But that's just how I see it.
Ohhh yeah, my copy has been sent. If I get lucky it'll arrive tomorrow.
I'd like to say that there's a difference between a "good" game and a "well-selling" game, but SE over the last few years (and they aren't alone, but I'm picking on them for this instance) has kind of blurred the line for me.
So for people who have played XIII-2 does it answer any of the questions at the end of XIII? Like some of these ? I've only skimmed XIII-2 spoilers and don't plan to play the game anytime soon.
The guy who wrote most of those questions was either trolling or fails to notice not-so-hidden details.
Just look at the first question:
The door opened because Snow activated a switch in another room (this happening while she is apologizing to Serah was a mere coincidence) and I guess the "turning the world sepia while humans vanish into gold sparkles" thing was Lightning having an inner monologue when she sees Serah's crystal in Like Bresha, with the aftementioned stuff happening for a more dramatic effect.- Lightning has two unique magical powers: She can open doors by apologizing to them, and she can also stop time, turn the world sepia, and cause all other human beings nearby to turn into golden sparkles. If you don’t believe me, play FF13 again; this happens multiple times. It is never touched upon or explained.
Other things are either explained in the novels (Vanille's weapon being in the Vestige) or can be comprehended if you take your time examining the situation better (Hope's hatred for Snow, the party fighting Orphan, etc.).
Not saying that FFXIII is plothole-free, but most of those points are really unecessary.
Don't remember many of the details by now, but still, some of the stuff he's wondering about is just plain silly or grasping when talking about video game and its story.
And yeah, some of the stuff was explained in the Novels, but not everybody has to know that.
Actually, most novels, or rather short-stories happen before the game, describing the events that lead to how the game starts. But afair there's another one happening just after the ending of XIII. Somebody should be able to provide a link to the translations, I don't have it bookmarked :<
So I pre-ordered the CE from amazon and it's been showing an expected delivery date for tomorrow but it hasn't shipped yet. Concerned.
