I was hoping they wouldn't use the same battle system.
I was hoping they wouldn't use the same battle system.
They said they plan on expand on XIII's system at the beginning though.
That was the one thing I didn't like in 13's combat -- I'd love to control the entire party. To SE's defense though, it's hard to control everything in an extremely fast-paced/crowded battlefield.
Aside from the button-bashing aspects, I loved that in DA2 you could switch party members if you wanted to -- i think that'd be a nice compromise.
Really looking forward to this - my only qualms with 13 were relatively small, like Vanille's annoying as hell voice/accent. Needs more Fang/Lightning.
biggest concern is the character progression system and level design. Those were the two things that really irked me the most i think. Although level design was only bad up to chapter 8. After that i liked it more. Character progression though was just.. awful.
I know some people hated having to play with certain characters, but I liked it. I know I would have just picked 3 "mains" at the beginning and ignored everyone else. I got more attached to all 6 the way they did it, even with their bland personalities.
The "3 mains" thing was what really hurt most oldschool RPGs in the storytelling department.
There were characters who had awesome lines during cutscenes yet you'd never use them because they sucked in battles.
I don't mind being forced to use everyone throughout the game, especially if they do it right like FFXIII where every character is good on his/her own.
Battle system is similar but also quite different. Notice the lack of Stagger and HP bars as well as a "Count" thing which is possibly a combo system like X-2.
I wonder how roles will play in this one without Stagger and if there's a reason why Serah can suddenly use l'Cie powers again.
first thing i thought when i saw his pants were.. male yuna outfit? lol..
wheres snow? someones traveling with his wife...?
also I hope the old cast come back... a sexy adolescent 17yo manly Hope would be pretty cool haha..
I'd be uber happy if Serah is the main character..
also very interested in the battle system. no stagger is a relief tho I'm happy the paradigm system is in place
Christ, Noel has those clothes because he's obviously a Pulse native.
FFXIII-2 will be playable at E3.

Really hope they evolve on that combat. It's fast paced which I loved by I would like to feel like I have more control over the other party members. Issuing out commands and switching between them on the fly.
The fact it's starting on Gran Pulse, the best thing about the first, and a possibly tweaked battle-system has me sold. Like others have said, I loved the fast pace of the battles but I want more control over my party members. And with it starting on Gran Pulse we probably won't have to deal with tunnel simulators for the first 20~30 hours of the game.
I feel like with the original game, they were aiming for a cynematic fast paced experience without actually having to go the action game route, like say in kingdom hearts, but i have mixed feelings about this. In ffxiii you just don't have enough time to carefully pick out your moves, so more often than not you have to pick autobattle. In an action game, you'd be busy wailing on an enemy, and perhaps diving into the skill/spell menu to use something which might be a problem of it kills the action too much or if it's too cumbersome to use.
I always prefered the action games where going into the skill menu slowed down the game, or where skills are hotkeyed into certain buttons for quick use. I just don't really like smashing autobattle.
I hope I'm not the only one that can see mech Zanarkand Sinspawn and male Yuna in the second picture.
