What Nevex said. Also it's kinda stupid and petty on my part but I'm not a huge fan of child characters In Japanese narrations because most of the time, the only direction they have to go in a story is to grow up or be incredibly annoying but somehow useful and to me he was pretty cliche in the former. Aside from a few fights and times where you have to use him, I got through the game without having to use Hope too much. Nevermind that I can be a very stubborn individual sometimes to my own detriment.

Sounds waaaay too much like Grandia I. Wasn't Feena pretty much a pedo in that game as well?

    I used Hope as well.

Anyway, I liked FFXIII, I thought it was a good game. Much better than VIII, X and XII, even though it was "linear".

Why is linear in quotes? It was linear.

    Which is why it's better.

    EDIT: Okay, X comes close.

But also came with a hide and seek minigame. 100 NPC's in a city, one progresses the story, find him.

Actually, even then it was linear because the story can ONLY advance in one direction at ANY TIME.

This is why I laugh at any FF fan making fun of FFXIII for being linear. EVERY SINGLE FINAL FANTASY GAME IS LINEAR. In fact, that's just how JRPG's work and it's one thing people from a DnD background hate about JRPG's.

But you're not taking into consideration how much depth, gameplay, immersion and most of all, freedom it adds to be able to read bunch of crap said by random NPC's and travel around the world with so many ways to interact with it, not to mention the thrill of running between different shops and even towns to find the single item you were looking for.

And a Gears of War with swords and magic is a superior alternative? If that's the case, SE should just make FFXIII-2 a movie and call it a day. Don't even give me the illusion that I'm free to go somewhere else to grind a bit or just check out the scenery or a sidequest in the middle or beginning of the game, and when I'm ready to head back, just visit a certain area. Just make it a giant FMV, put at least each spell in the movie twice, and go nuts with all the backflips, twirls and gymnastics slashes from the XXX protagonist with the sword.

Oh, make sure the gun-user never misses, make sure somebody is the comic relief with the toothy smile, make sure there's a borderline loli to appease the pedos, make sure there are no main characters over 35, and if they are, give them a reason for looking far younger, and for heaven's sake, we need more belts on the designs. Nomura's been slacking.

Love your argument, Lucavi, considering FFXIII is the only FF game with a truly difficult and interactive battle system compared to its predecessors. Surely it should be a movie instead! Lets take away the best part of it!

3 pages and no one points out that it's just a fucking domain registration by a company suspected to be a SE front and does not promise anything? I like hyping myself up as much as the next guy, but shit... I have to draw a line somewhere. They like to say that CSC registered other Square Enix game URLs, but what about all the other, existing Final Fantasy URLs that it never registered?

Ehhhhhhh.... that's a bit of a stretch, honestly. I look at the big picture, not simply the end of a game. How interactive was the battle system until chapter 8, really? Sure you can say that it was just a tutorial that was meant to represent the heroes gaining power and the player gaining knowledge over the system, but that doesn't make it a good idea. It also wasn't all that interactive since its not like there were trigger points or anything during fights that allowed you additional freedom and led to additional moves.

The characters moved on their own (though you could painstakingly "kite" mobs through extreme paradigm switch setups), your AI mates did their own thing (though you could manipulate their actions to an extent through paradigms), and aside from certain hunts once the game opened up, there wasn't a whole lot of "interactivity" or even innovation in terms of how boss fights actually played out. Hell, even the "don't attack, just defend to defeat this boss!" was done back in FFIV.

You can call the battle system the best part of a few FF's as well. I personally felt that FFXII's battle system was the best part of it, as with VII. That doesn't mean that the system is anything close to interactive. I think you picked the wrong word there, actually.

The point stands. The game was a movie up until you hit the glorious savannah. They could have made that section of the game into a movie easily as well, and it might have even looked/performed better considering the size differences of the mobs and the attacks they used.

You make it seem like I'm mocking XIII by saying that it should have been a movie. I'm not. SE has clearly shown that their focus in recent years is attempting to blur the lines between FMV and in-game graphics, and based on their decisions to not have towns because it would have cost too much to make and would have took too long to put in, they should have just FMVed the entire game, and released the informational journal to people on the side if they wanted more lore or a recap.

I didn't see XIII being too different from Advent Children aside from the fact that the plot was better. I didn't see the interactivity you're mentioning, even after beating it and doing quite a few upgrades. I see the classic "by max level, everyone can do everything, but some can do things slightly better so use every red mage as you wish!" that we've been seeing religiously, barring a few exceptions, since FFVI.

@Mioko: Don't run our dreams, Mioko, or our discussions. You still have yours; of a beautiful FFXIV world of milk and honey. The FF forums have been slow as molasses; any new, potentially juicy discussion is good discussion.

Sort of an offshoot, but is it possible that FF13 Versus tells the story of why Pulse was uninhabited? Aren't the 3 versions of 13 supposed to be related to something?

Also, does anyone know why SE has not released ANY information regarding XV? Usually they have some sort of information leak out about the next one just after the release. I remember when IX came out there was information (although little) about X, XI, and XII (They had a general idea of the war concept and that was about it).

Maybe they're trying to keep their cards close for the moment? I dunno. With the restructuring in some of the divisions, I guess it wouldn't be a surprise.

    FF5: Press attack.
    FF7: Press attack, summon KotR.
    FF8: Attack.
    FF9: Attack.
    FFX: Attack.
    FFXII: Setup gambits, attack.
FFXIII: Setup paradigms, switch between 3 paradigms as needed (usually com/com/rav, com/rav/rav and com/rav/med for most of the game) to speed up fights and get 5-stars each time. Boss fights including a setup with either a SAB, a SYN or a SEN in paradigms that you need to switch to either at all times or before/during/after certain moves.

That's how I've played all the FF games I've beaten. I never saw any need to use the majority of buff/debuff spells in FF games, but I use them plenty in FFXIII. I press buttons FAR more often and in fact my reaction time has given me an advantage over the other two people I've seen play the game (both of them girls, both got stomped hard playing it even though both of them have beaten more FF titles than I). I died a LOT more in FFXIII than in any previous FF game. I'd wipe to normal mobs, I'd wipe to bosses, and I'd wipe to both multiple times even. That's not been the norm for me in FF games before.
