When I first heard "Summon Raid" from the last interview, it got all me excited for a second thinking "Eidolons are back!" but it turns out to just a fancy name for what we already know (monster pets and their special abilities) .

Well as for DLC - Amazon.com's preorder bonus is the one with Omega DLC included.

    Click for NA preorder bonus

You know I was thinking about DLC and I have two "glass half empty" perspectives regarding them:

    1. They intentionally cut out content (or intentional be lazy) and sell stuff later as DLC.

    OR

    2. They are intentional are lazy and will assume people will buy the game anyway despite the content.

Obviously the problem with number 2 is the fact that if they keep doing that, people will catch on and will stop buying sequels.

However with number 1 - most people don't mind and get used to it.

Personally I don't as long as "Monster Arena", "Vanille", and "New Game Plus".

Speaking of new game plus, how hard would it be for developers to implement it (considering it seems SE is so lazy and doesn't bother with new game+.) Honestly I think it should be a feature that should be in every RPG. Sometimes I just want to plow through the game and just enjoy the cutscenes or so with my overpowered characters from that I leveled up from the previous game.

But overall this is why PC versions of games (with mod support) are great. El oh el Elder Scrolls IV PC Version or Civilizations 4 and 5 PC version, think you can make us buy DLC when we can just mod said content into the game? (Thanks Bethesda Softworks for modding support >.>.) But yeah PC versions... cmon SE PC version of FF games with mod support!

The costumes were mentioned with the Omega fight DLC.

You underestimate the selling power behind the words "Final Fantasy".
If anything, people will stop buying DLC for that game, but copies of the game itself will sell regardless.

We should wait til we play to game before jumping to stupid conclusions like "they're cutting content from the game to release as DLC".
This is not like Capcom cutting the beginning and the end of DR2 to release it as console exclusive DLC, it's simply extra weapons/costumes/monsters that don't affect the storyline or game that much.
It does suck that the US is getting store exclusive preorder DLC but everyone does it anyway so SE isn't the devil here, it's the industry in general. EU doesn't have anything confirmed yet even if a CE edition with all the preorder DLC+ the novel is likely like they did for Dissidia Duodecim.

Gamestop's bonus is an alt. Serah costume and Amazon's is an Omega battle... Seems like an easy decision where to pre-order from, lol. Although Best Buy's book is tempting too, I want all 3

You Can Play Final Fantasy XIII-2 With Japanese Voiceovers And English Text, Too
… or Chinese text, for that matter. Sony Computer Entertainment Hong Kong announced today that they will release a version of Final Fantasy XIII-2 with Japanese voiceovers and all text and menus rendered in your choice of English or Traditional Chinese, thanks to a partnership between Sony Computer Entertainment Asia and Square Enix.

And like with Dissidia 012[duodecim]: Final Fantasy, the English/Chinese edition will allow you to import save data from both the English and Japanese versions of Final Fantasy XIII.
The English/Chinese edition will hit stores in Asia on January, 31 2012, the same day Final Fantasy XIII-2 arrives in North America.

“I am glad to be able to bring Final Fantasy XIII-2 to the Asian region. Final Fantasy XIII was our first release in both Chinese and Korean, but it was about a year behind the Japanese release," producer Yoshinori Kitase said in the press release. "However, this time we are able to get this game into your hands with only a month or so of lag."

In the meantime, if you’re curious to see how Serah and Noah’s names are supposed to be read in Mandarin, log in to the Asian PlayStation Store today to find a new trailer of the game with Chinese subtitles.

English VA was far superior imo. Ali Hillis, Troy Baker and Laura Bailey alone are reason enough to stick with that.

Done a search for "twitter" on this thread and no one's mentioned it.

Vanille's English VA leaked on twitter a couple of months ago that she's in the game and is recording lines.

@The Stig - Actually someone did mention it before [but without mentioning twitter, just linking] but no worries as it's a good reminder (also something to speculate about, especially with the game being closer to release.)

As for the different experience - Hmm... I'm worried for Vanille (or what may become of her. Noooooo! SE Why? [Need to prepare just in case])

+ Georgia van Cuylenburg as Vanille [she's coming back]

I do prefer English voices most of the time. There are some situations where I do prefer Japanese (Lucky Star and Nanoha for example. Though with Lucky Star it's really close since the English dub is good too. Nanoha is good too but the dubbing was inconsistent with character names >.<) but most of the time I prefer English.

    Why English?

    1. Well at least for me, hearing things in a language I can understand allows me to connect with the characters more easily.

    2. Sometimes can't read + process subtitles fast enough (I read it but what happened again? Time to rewind and reread. Though if there is no rewind [video games], I'm a bit screwed)

    3. Sometimes you can chat with their VAs on twitter or something which is nice. For me, this really allows the characters to grow on me more.

    4. I love Vanille's voice (Georgia van Cuylenburg did a great job IMO.)

Anyway example (Meet Tidus [James Arnold Taylor] and Penelo's [Catherine Taber] VA):
("1 minute and 27 seconds" is when they briefly talk about Final Fantasy)

Video is more interesting if you played the English version (cause hey there's Tidus and Penelo's English VAs and you heard their voices in game before!)

We should wait til we play to game before jumping to stupid conclusions like "they're cutting content from the game to release as DLC".
Agreed. Look at Final Fantasy XIII for example >.> (no DLC but look at the content and how the ending was so short!)

    Spoiler: show
Well in a way, FFXIII-2 is "the DLC" for FFXIII. FFXIII's ending totally made me feel the "I felt like I hardly knew them" to the characters [especially Vanille <3. I want more Vanille.] Short ending with lots of questions left [what will happen to them now? Why didn't they show Serah and Snow getting married?] = feels like something is missing... [Though I'm glad that for the sequel]

I wonder how long they'll go with the monthly DLC though. Hearing 1-2 DLC per month sounds nice. This may give a hint at the game's replay value or content -

How many people would be willing to go back to play FF13-2 again after they completed it if all the DLC were just costumes and/or one or two monsters? So I assume/hope SE knows this and will either make the DLC interesting enough to buy after completing the game or make the game have lots of replay value to keep the player interested long enough to continuing buying monthly DLC.

They said weapon DLCs will all be tied with additional fights to acquire them. Basically you won't simply buy the weapons and have them in your inventory.
Not sure if the preorder weapons are any different though and I assume costumes will be available on purchase.

I think the VAs have come to a point where the English VAs are
Good enough to portray what was initially intended and also add a level of emotional depth to their speech. I understand both Japanese and English, but the beauty of English as a language is that it portrays a lot more feelings through speech. Japanese tone is more often used and generalized with character instead. What this does for me is it really fleshes out the emotions used in a scene better in English than in Japanese.
Some scenes in XIII seemed almost clinical in terms of delivery in Japanese, but had vocal depth in English (eg snow/lightning looking at cocoon from pulse scene) and I thought they did a really good job.

As for vanillas VA.. Theres always a possibility of flashbacks but I believe she will take a more serious turn as someone speaking from within crystal stasis to whoever, just like in the ending of XIIi

Generally for games I prefer English VA so I can really appreciate and take in the world/graphics without glancing at the bottom of the screen every 2 seconds. That and FF games generally have great VAs, and the more games they do voiced the better they become. Yeah, X was pretty bad, but that was the first FF/SE game that I played with real voices and not just text. After that, with KH, XII and even XIII, they VAs have gotten much better.

Though I've never played a FF game in Japanese, so I might do that for shits and giggles.

During the FFXIII release, this seemed a lot of fun

When I was very young I played FF8 (imported from a trip in Hong Kong) when it was brand new to the last boss without knowing how to junction magic to stats, was really fun kinda dubbing it all in my head to imagine what is going on.
