I think the OST is pretty good so far. Ultimately, in order to be successful it just needs to have a handful of tracks that are memorable for a reason or another.
To name an example, I absolutely love Desperate Struggle from FFXIII and a huge part of that love comes from how they used it the first time in the game, when Odin appears for the first time. That track made the entire cutscene.

Will to Fight I feel the same way with in Chapter 10. It just felt redemptive which is suitable given that you have to essentially examine your own Will to Fight during that chapter (from the perspective of the characters) anyway and question why you're fighting in the same place. Love that track.

Archylte Steppe is an amazing track in its own right but how it was introduced with the soaring image of freedom and just the fragile hanging shell of Cocoon hanging in the air basically said: "this is your destiny. You must save it" and I fell in love with the track ever since.

I tend to respond to things emotionally I'm afraid it's just how I work! If something fails to provoke an emotion from me (even as basic as excitement) then I tend to find it uninteresting or unmemorable.

Sometimes, no matter how much I love FF games, I really hate SE.

I want a damn option for the Japanese audio track (vocals, music and sound effects) on the PS3, and there's no good reason for them not to give it.

I've had this pre-ordered for a couple months or so now, but it still annoys the hell out of me that I know we won't get it (although I haven't actually heard anything official regarding it one way or the other, not that it really matters).

They can't fit that into the 360 version, so forget that PS3 gets it. Plus, of course any other reasons S-E and most companies use to not include that stuff.

I'd only want a JP language track to try it, not because I think it's better than the ENG language track. For the most part, the only difference would be voice overs, sound effects and music would remain mostly the same (with the only difference being songs with lyrics - but how many of the tracks are sung in engrish anyway?)

The Chinese version has English menu's and subs, but VA and music is from the Japanese version. And unlike 2 years ago with FFXIII, this time with FFXIII-2 it is released the same day as the NA version. So you could try that? Play-asia has it up for order iirc.

And Play-Asia is an idea, and I'd be tempted if I had any other friends nearby buying the game, but I'd like access to the english version too if I wanted it.

It's just annoying as hell, because I'm reasonably sure (although could be mistaken) that a not insignificant part of the reason the PS3 won't get them (despite being plenty able) is because MS has some list of requirements/restrictions for multi-platform games that prevent it. So essentially boils down to what Gokulo said, the 360 can't so the PS3 won't, which is bullshit, since it isn't even necessarily that SE is unwilling, it's just that they can't if they want to release it at the same time on the 360 and PS3.

The Chinese version btw has the added bonus that it reads JP and English save files for FFXIII. XIII-2 will probably be the same, so you can use the same save file if you end up buying an English VA version cheap later. I don't want to sound like a salesperson and force you to the Chinese version or something, but since SE (or MS) won't change, this would be the best you can do with the options that are available?

Also while the MS argument might be partially true. SE also has to make lipsync for both VA's (since they did bother with that for XIII). So every cutscene needs to be on the disc twice I think. If I remember correctly the PS3 version had about 13 GB left on the dual layer bluray and the Xbox discs (think disc 1 and 3) had a total of 3 GB left. Considering how much they butchered cutscenes on the 360, it could maybe fit. Maybe even more so now that MS made new security features so that the discs have more space available on them instead of the 6.8 GB in the days of XIII. So the problem might simply be that SE can't be arsed to put in the effort for the minority that wants both VA's. I remember an interview shortly after XIII release how they were shocked people outside Japan wanted JP VA. So it must be new to them lol.

Legit question here (I seriously don't know the answer, so I'm not trying to be sarcastic): Do many (any?) other games provide the option to change voice-over languages? Assassin's Creed comes to mind as a recent game that I know is available in many languages, but I never cared to check if they let you pick between languages.

Voice-overs in a story-heavy game take up a significant amount of memory; I always just assumed they weren't included simply because of how much space they took up (though the lip-syncing is a good argument too, I hadn't thought of that before).

I believe the international version of Star Ocean 4 on the PS3 had an option to change voice overs. I don't think it's a widely offered feature, but I definitely agree that it would be nice to see more often.
