I have to disagree with the following posters on their reviews to this movie. I am a sci fi genre fanatic and this movie is a huge step above anything that has come out in the last decade in the genre. I just watched a good cam version and I would go buy a IMAX ticket fucking tomorrow. It lived up to it's hype and then some imo. The poster who said this review summed up how he felt was because he wanted in to be exactly like Alien/Aliens/Alien3, this shit ain't that type of party. He wanted The Girl With the Dragon tattoo to be Ripley she ain't that type of party either folks. And Charlize Theron fucking killed it in this. A 5 star sci fi movie with stunning visuals and shit you will never see in any other sci fi film. A must see for anyone who enjoys the genre.

While I'm not a scifi fanatic, I would rather watch a scifi film than a romcom any day of the week. And because I'm not a fanatic, it doesn't mean I can't have expectations. Sadly, this film didn't meet them.

I never went in expecting full on Alien carnage. I did expect though that there'd be some sort of correlation between this movie and the others. It left me with a lot of questions about how this movie fits into the events of Alien which could perhaps be covered in a sequel.

My complaints are more about the plot. I don't want to go through the film bit by bit, but for example, we go from some dig in Scotland to a space ship in a matter of minutes. That was very jarring to me. Why would people sign up for a mission without knowing what it was about? The pay must have been very good indeed. The ginger dude whose accent I couldn't quite place was annoying as hell. He had to be the voice of doubt and dissonance every time he spoke. When the space ship was cruising around the planet, it just happened to come across the one space ship with an alien in stasis? Thems are good odds. It seemed as if the weapons had turned on the Engineers. Why then would the last remaining Engineer still want to carry out its mission of destroying Earth? Seemed very pointless to me. When the infected crewmember came back to Prometheus and proceeded to attack the crew, I had no idea where those new crewmembers had come from. There suddenly seemed like tons of them getting flung all over the place. How come the Scottish dude and the other one were not able to find their way out of the thing that they called a pyramid but wasn't one? I didn't give a flying fuck about Charlize Theron's character wanting to have sex to prove a point. Rapace's character not being able to have children had to be inserted to garner blatant sympathy and to prove later on that the pregnancy was not a natural one. I think we could have figured that out by the fact she just had sex and is in an Alien movie. Why oh why would you run away from a crashed ship in the direction it is falling in? That scene was just so laughingly bad. I had no sympathy at all for Theron getting crushed like a bug. And then Rapace nearly suffered the same fate. The medical room on the pod - there was no shock value at all there. I mean come on, let's look around the room for 30 seconds not seeing anything. Of course there's bloody something in there!

I didn't want Rapace to be Sigourney Weaver. I would have liked if there'd been some good old fashioned killing with machine guns but you can't have everything. Seems flamethrowers outrank guns in this world.

I grant the visuals were nice. The music was a horrible mess though.

I loved David. I was rooting for him to kill everyone by about half way through the movie.

Saw this movie yesterday, and as an Aliens fan it lived up to expectations. The story isn't spoonfed to you, you have to think a bit and put everything together to appreciate the ending and how it links up to the original Alien movies. It wasn't as scary or suspenseful as the originals, but there are some cringe worthy parts. If you're never seen the first two aliens, take a friend who has because you're going to have a lot of questions that don't get answered.

Only 2 shows for normal, 12:30PM and 6:30PM(Friday), is it like this for everywhere else?

I absolutely cannot wait to see this. Unfortunately I have to wait a few weeks, but I do feel this is a must see in the theater, and I never go out to the movies. I personally don't care if it's like Alien(s) at all. All I know is Ripley Scott is an awesome director, Charlize Theron is an awesome actress, and the previews that I've seen showed me just enough to get excited and not enough to ruin it.

On a side note, I've only watched Aliens on tv and I wasn't impressed with it. I think when I get some time I'll sit down and watch them all. My wife hasn't seen any of them and she's excited to see Prometheus as well.

About 5 showings each for 2D and 3D at our local non-IMAX theater. 2D Avengers still has 6 showings lol.

IMAX 3D= 6 showings
Normal = 2
3D= 2

Kinda weird tbh. Avenger still has about 8 showings in total here.

Whoa that's weird, especially the Avengers bit. I think some theatres change showtimes according to popularity at location? Anyways at my local place they have 5 showings for 2D,3D, and imax (friday). 5 showings for 2D Avengers and only 3 for 3D but a fuckton for Snow White 2D and Madagascar 2D/3D (9~11)
