Assumably the Xenomorphs are bioweapons that are highly adaptable and so they evolve dependant of their hosts/surroundings.
Perhaps that is how they originally started out and then with more contact through other species or further evolution, they came to look how they do now.
The giant rape squid was a strand that was born from the Engineers, so it would make more sense that they would be much bigger as they would need the extra size and strength to over come them.

But who the hell knows.

can someone draw the connection for me? i'm wondering why the engineers would have the vase's with the alien goo babies in them, that david then used to poison halloway and impregnate his honeysauce, that then becomes some giant alien squid looking mother fucker that didn't seem to resemble the traditional face sucker (but obviously was). could that big asshole just have been a giant face sucker? or perhaps one of the first or a different race of face suckers? or maybe a queen face sucker???

did the engineers 'engineer' them as a bio weapon???

The movie leads us to believe that the goo is some crazy ass bio weapon that DNA rapes whatever it touches by turning it into a horrible biological weapon that hates on everything nearby. The goo seems to give whatever it comes into contact with characteristics that we identify with the original aliens (it gave the worms acid blood, it turned the chick's baby into a giant squid face hugger).

Another thing to note, is that in the original Alien film, the Space Jockey (engineer) ship had tons of facehugger eggs stored in it. As opposed to the vases. I am guessing that somewhere down the road Ridley or whoever takes over the Prometheus prequels, will explain how they eggs came to be.

I assume the Engineers didn't put the eggs there. My bet is that the spaceship had a Xenomorph problem or at the very least the Pilot was impregnated and a Queen burst out of its chest and the queen laid those eggs there before moving elsewhere.

Gonna go watch Alien again and try to forget this exists.

I don't think I've been this disappointed since Spore.

Giant rape squid was a strain born from humans, coming about as an infected human's love baby (from the original goop, not any mutations of it). We see a familiar looking xenomorph burst out at the end of the movie, but it's not quite there yet. That one will probably infest a human, and then we get the ones we all know and love.

Movie was awesome though, if you forget that the original alien movies existed. This one is great in it's own right; the only problem comes up when you try making direct links to the originals, which just aren't possible yet with out a sequel or two. Well, that, and scientist being freaked out cause of alien spaceship, then gets all buddy buddy with the alien worm in the goop room, that scene made no fucking sense.

He immediately wanted to go in the direct opposite direction of the ship when the probe was saying there was a life form the other way, even though the captain said it must have been a glitch. Then he wants to pet the thing when he sees it.

I almost turned it off when the Joe Rogan character used the term "Darwinism" in a non-facetious manner to refer to evolution. Probably should have. How about "100% HUMAN DNA" ...the fuck is that even supposed to mean? Why did none of the "scientists" have a clue about their own disciplines or about common sense? Why have maps and cameras when no one uses them? Why summarize the entire movie in the trailer and then just stumble around for like 10 minutes after the second half-climax, cleaning up the android and shit? Could have made the whole last scene just say "buy the sequel" instead of piddling around. Why were there superworms in the soil before any of the shit even started leaking? Why didn't they get an actual old guy to play the old guy? Meh... the gore was nice.

While I loved the movie and didn't really question things like that; Don't you think people would be skeptical of their safety if they were offered large sums of money with no explanation as to what they were going to be doing?

I mean, that already sounds like a Craigslist employment scam in real life.

Sure, why not? But a company like Wayland Co. would be able to afford to background check every notable person in each field and pick people who would be more disposed about it. That point was one of the least questionable things in the movie to me.
