Sure, why not? But a company like Wayland Co. would be able to afford to background check every notable person in each field and pick people who would be more disposed about it. That point was one of the least questionable things in the movie to me.

The company (or whatever it becomes in the future) does the exact same shit with the Space Marines in the Aliens movie. They have no idea what they are doing until they are briefed while in transit. Whoever works in that HR department apparently sucks major ass for at least a few hundred years.

Eh, I let the encounter with the cobra-looking thing slide because although he was dumb, he was a biologists and was fascinated by the thing, I guess. Oh yeah, we also have a geologist w/ a bong in his suit. The xenomorph at the end looked like crap, so did the old man.

It was a good watch, but not the best by any means. When it was over I was like 'what.'

i interpret his answer as "The Space Jesus" was a little too glaring of an explanation for the story, so he didn't bring it up in the movie, but the thought behind the (to steal his word) scenario is there. i feel like he wanted to avoid bringing up exact religious links, even though you can take the entire film as being extremely religious, depending on how you look at it.

Thanks for that. I put the pieces together when they were having the convo something along the lines of 'they changed their minds 2k years ago.' That and it was evident they emphasized on Shaw's religious beliefs, and survived a ton of shit, btw. I also forgot they landed on the planet on Christmas. There was this scene where the captain was decorating a tree.

It was heavy implied in the original cut that the engineer was angry because the first thing he sees after sleeping for 2k years is a greedy old man that doesnt want to die and a robot that cannot die. His entire philosophy revolved around self sacrifice death and giving life and this was an insult to him. So he decided to kill them both.

So im pretty sure the engineers words will just be something that spells this out.

I really hate the Sci-Fi "We're way more advanced because we're extraterrestials but we are portrayed to be primitive as all fuck whenever we are around humans" trope. I just watched this last night and I gradually dozed off because I didn't find the story at all thought provoking when most of the actors fit the typical survivalist movie archetypes. I love Sci-Fi as much as the next guy but there doesn't always need to be an overly enthusiastic badass that never listens or the ridiculously skeptical guy that everyone knows is gonna die because he somehow ends up separated from the group.

I'll definitely be interested in seeing where they take a sequel but please have better writing for the next one. It's ironic how the robot had more personality than all of the actors combined.

So I finally got around to watching this last night. I really enjoyed the movie for what it was but damn it I was left with more questions than I had going into the movie and not in the good way. I really hope the deleted scenes fill in some of the gaps, but I'm stoked for a sequel or two. As for the casting of Guy Pearce as an old man, my guess is that the sequel will either have a ton of flashbacks or just be a prequel rather than sequel.

Has anyone else seen the commercial for the Blu Ray release of this movie that has the cat from Alien in it?! OMG it is hilarious. I can not find it on you tube or anywhere. And none of my friends have seen it :*

It makes me mad that "Questions Will Be Answered". I'm all for cliffhangers and some questions for thinking about after a movie etc, but to make such a cool movie without any substance, then make us buy the dvd to have any idea what the point of the movie was... seems really shady.
