In the various Alien books, at least those considered "Canon" the Space Jockeys were not a nice race, they went to various planets they could find and conquer them.

it's also "reasonable" to consider that if a species such as humans has abused and destroyed our own planet that we would only do the same and fuck up the entire universe.
Or like stated in the post above me, maybe instead of searching the universe for planets with valuable resources, they let their soon to be victims find them and lead them to their planet.
or maybe they have really small penises so they are killing all the races who have bigger ones than them.

It's been said the Space Jockey is actually a suit, which seems to be verified by the new trailers. I think the occupant(whom I'm guessing dies since they find the remains in Alien), is whomever is transforming in the Prometheus trailers.

So basically, they are an ancient race that died out leaving behind traces (clues) to their arc ship which caries their "eggs" which transform anyone who finds it into Space Jockey in order to repopulate the universe?
