Tippman Model 98. It's a good reliable gun.
Tippman 98 regular or custom.
Dont get the total shit cheapass balls, too many will blow up in your gun.
98 Custom is a great gun if you plan on playing occasionally such as once a month, otherwise I would say just rent from your local field, especially if you plan on doing speedball rather than woods ball.
If you plan on getting into paintball you should buy your own mask before you buy a gun imo.
There are woods around here that people play in and we wanted to do something like that, if not we would just go out to a speedball course. I was hoping I could get a cheap gun since my a few of the people that are going to this one trip have some, so we could make it a monthly thing. 150 seems like much (I am in college after all lol) but I guess it's not if I want a solid gun. Anything around the 100~ price range?
The problem with a lot of cheapass guns is that they're cheap. You're going to end up breaking more paintballs and wasting more money on that than to just fork out an extra $50 for a reliable gun.
damn i remember when the tipmann 98 came out, IN LIKE 98. p. awesome that it is still going strong. I had an autococker, it was the shiz
My vote also goes for the 98. I had a 98 custom and played woods ball with it for years. I would literally drag it through mud and water and as long as the barrel was clear I never had any issues with it. I'll also second getting good paint. It makes a noticeable difference both in accuracy and especially when you don't have to clean out your barrel cause a bad ball broke in it. Any of the Tippman models are solid choices, but the 98 is probably the best option if you're not going to be playing super frequently. You could try craigs list or local pawn shops to see if you could pick one up for cheap. As stated they're/were a pretty popular gun and have been around for years.
I'd also recommend learning how to strip and clean the gun before you take it out and play with it. You don't want something to go wrong and not no how to fix it out in the field.
98 definitely
damn I miss my Spyder SE from way back when I used to play! lol
I like my spyder clone. Should be able to find some of those pretty cheap also.
If you are really so strapped for cash, just use a slingshot
Tippman 98 is solid, or if you wanna pay a little extra the Tippman A5 is pretty nice for a starter marker.
ill go along and say make sure you buy good paintballs, cheap paintballs are a waste of money as theyll just waste your time breaking in the barrel
Oh, and anyone got any tips?I've played before but that was a loooooooong time ago when I was way younger.
Don't wear an orange jumpsuit in the middle of the bush. We went out to the bush to play one afternoon, and a friend of mine showed up in that, we were like what the fuck?
Become comfortable with your gun. Learn how fast you can shoot w/o overshooting and breaking paintballs and just get the general feel of your gun. If you're playing a lot of team games, be strategic, don't just run and gun because you're gonna get shot.
Most importantly just have fun. If you're playing with a bunch of people who are just all about winning matches rather than just having with it, shit starts to suck. I always had a riot going out with my buddies all afternoon, I kinda miss it.
Learn to shoot with either hand (this is especially important if your playing arena/speed ball). Learn to clean your barrel quickly. You will have a ball break in the barrel and you will have to clean it in the middle of a game. As I said before, learn to field strip your gun. Sometimes you'll have an O-ring break inside the gun. Learn how to open the gun up and replace the O-rings and clean/oil the moving parts. If you think your CO2/Air is running low and you don't carry a spare while playing replace it between games (or carry the spare for that game). Nothing sucks more then running out of gas mid game. Other then that teamwork and communication are always important.
also for an awesome gun i say go with a pump to start off
back when i played i used a mask called the badass. it was pretty badass. this was like 10 years ago though, idk if they are still around or even good
