I just figured that there were so few musicals that you couldn't have it as its own category and they don't want to completely ignore that genre so they just tacked it on.

There aren't enough musicals every year, its a holdover from the days of Singing in the Rain and Oklahoma!
The nominations for best comedy (motion picture) were a joke
and it wasn't a funny joke.
http://www.theatlantic.com/culture/a...-comedy/68866/ explains why the foreign box office/HFPA/Golden Globes is killing funny American comedy.
basically: movies that made it as nominees are movies that make bank abroad b/c of plots that are easily translatable and actors that are internationally viable (that's why the Tourist is in there, despite Gervais's jokes)
Dunno why I didn't think it was that funny. Probably because I've seen plenty of Greg Giraldo and the other jew guy whatshis face... Jeff Ross, that's the one.
And glee, wtf is that?
I watched Gervais' opening monologue and honestly, if people dont expect that kind of outright insult comedy from one of the UKs highest grossing comedians especially the nominating body of the globes then its their own fault for not doing their research before hand. the whole point to gervais' comedic styling is to be so far out there as to enrage the people hes poking fun at and it seems hes won by the statements that they have said about him hosting the ceremony, its brilliant.
This was simply amazing. The Tim Allen bit was hilarious, sorry your career is so abysmal. lolz.
In reality Tim Allen's career isn't that much worse then Gervais's.... He has sitcom that is in syndication on TBS as much as The Office is to give him cash (ontop of higher royalties as star AND creator), and hes made a fuckton more movies in the last ~15 years. It's just that compared to Tom Hanks anybody is abysmal.. thats the joke.
