Amazon Pricing error.

Due to a mix up over at Amazon.com. They accidently switched the Controller price with the PS3 price. So now PS3's are going for 39.99. I've noticed a huge amount of orders in the past few hours. I wonder if they will honor that price..lol

It's actually Target's pricing mistake and very unlikely to be honored. I ordered 2 earlier today for the hell of it. Probably just get canceled.

It seems unlikely they'll honor it. PS3's even sold at full price make barely any money for the retailer. And it's not like doing something like that would give them bad publicity or blowback. It's an extremely obvious mistake.
But then again, what do I know?

They wont. It was also for a 60gb version which they wont have stock of. And also if you ordered it from the target page, the final page lists it as the controller.

There is a law in place that they don't have to honor it when an error occurs.

So every time we see 5ft plasma TV for 199$ you know that your not going to get it.

I believe the law (at least in Michigan) says that the store does not have to give you a price that is lower than what the store paid for it if there is a pricing error. I heard about this all the time when items got pricemarked wrong (marked $10.00 instead of $100.00 for example) or if someone with a rogue pricegun marked something at crazy low prices. If the price is marked wrong but is still above the cost that the store paid, they are supposed to give the customer the item for that price. Michigan has a rather strong pricing law, everything is supposed to be marked with a sticker specifically listing the price, if it's on sale it needs to have a sign stating the sale price at every location it is in the store. Unless some of this changed in the 3 years since I worked in retail there...

It is an error, but I have yet to get an email saying as much from amazon or target after buying it yesterday. Also, they charged like $15 for shipping, I doubt they would get that for shipping a controller.

I'm sure the first few orders are going to go though just fine. Then when they notice they have a bunch of PS3s costing $50, they're going to turn their heads.

Just as a FYI when this happens don't even bother wasting your time because there's a delay on most eCommerce sites for processing orders set in place for this reason (even overnight orders). Order volumes skyrocket so high so quickly that any decent order management system will point out the anomaly and send an alert, resulting in all orders being invalidated.

In some situations maybe a few will hit the trucks before people catch on but odds are if you're reading about it in a forum it's too late.
