Well i didn't really mean reviewers like IGN, or kotaku. More like youtube reviewers which seem to be a little more spot on i feel.

For the past few years, SE's entire rhetoric about their development process has always boiled down to "we wanted to do this, but it would take too much time/money/manpower". Literally everything they have developed in recent years has had this excuse tacked onto it. It is clearly their best attempt at lowering fans' expectations before the game comes out, because they know the slavering fanboys who have been waiting for the game for years will inevitably be disappointed at what the current SE is able to produce. (I cannot wait for the shitstorm that ensues when they inevitably axe shit from the FF7 remake too).
It's such a pessimistic viewpoint to take, but SE has given us no reason to believe in their creation abilities these past years. And the other reason interviews always read like this is the typical Japanese interview template. We are doing our best (and because we have stated that we are doing our best, this absolves us of our perceived shortcomings because you are expected to believe we truly did try our best instead of making the graphics look pretty and then phoning in the rest). We feel that... (we're bullshitting out our ass but because it's based on something vague like thoughts/feelings anything is okay to say here).
I don't have any particular beef with them leaving out or adding in to XV as long as the finished product is...good. I hesitate to say "awesome" because I can't believe in them that much, but I would love for it to be awesome. I am just getting pretty tired of SE using the same excuses over and over for their poor or failed execution of ideas.
Not to derail this too heavily but it's not like SE's stance is any worse than Capcom (cancel everything you love) or Konami (it's Konami). Are there any "honest" JP game studio titans anymore?
Also this game set a first for me: the Platinum demo actively made me hold off on buying this. Will wait when it's on deep sale some years down the line. There was no sense of impact to combat and I doubt it will change in release. I really wanted to be excited for both this and SO5 but both lack "something" that 12-year-old-me would have overlooked. Feels empty.
That was also the first one that crossed my mind but I wasn't 100% sure

I already forgot how stupid that demo was. I don't know what SE was thinking with it, only the last 2 minutes showed a combat system with potential to do stuff like this, the rest of the demo was a freaking snooze fest.
Wasn't the demo primarily to show off lighting and particle effects (hence those weird spells)? It was hardly a combat showcase until you get to the end then there's a real fight.

Didnt SE say it will have English and Japanese voiceovers
I agree but I'm not even judging the first 90% of the demo for precisely that reason. The combat in that last couple of minutes was the biggest turn-off because it was underwhelming after the slog of lighting tech demo.
I mean I guess it's my fault for not knowing about the high-up warp points or hidden weapons but I wasn't about to repeat the fight 10 times looking all over the environment for a lamppost to rub my sword on. Doesn't change that everything felt like throwing a fistfull of confetti and had about as much impact.
Good companies but I was looking more at ones with like "household name" recognition. Even Atlus is maybe? almost on the niche end. Smaller studios seem to be more honest.

I'm still salty that she's Cindy and not Cidney.
Her Grandfather is the games "Cid", so I don't see why you'd be upset =\
