To the surprise of absolutely no one, the film is bombing.

Yet somehow, all of the reviews from both critics and people who went to see it, even jaded fans who are tired of the FF name being dragged through the mud, are quite positive. Doesn't sound like it's a bad movie at all. Haven't even seen people say "good for a video game movie", they just say it's good, period.

I don't know anything about the standards of Japanese film critics, so I can't speak to them, but I wouldn't call anyone who sees a supplemental CGI movie for a game that's not even out yet jaded. Let alone those that saw it on opening weekend.

It's fine if you piss all over it after you see it and confirm it deserves pissing all over, but pissing all over it sight unseen is a pretty shitty attitude to take. Though I suppose most final fantasy fans are simply miserable at this point and I shouldn't be surprised at that attitude.
