There is a lot this could mean and generally it's easy to imagine that even if the story is linear at that point there could still be exploration and shit. The first half being open world seems like an excuse just to go around to places and dick around and get killed with sidequests.
It's not like I hated the way FFX and FFXIII started off, linear games aren't even slightly bad (but you say linear and FF and people lose their shit lol) unless the gameplay or characters/story is just bad. People just want an excuse to bitch about not being able to goof off whenever it pleases them.
Linear doesn't necessarily mean you can only go in a straight line though. It could simply be that the story gices you moreniptions where to go earlier. Maybe you can choose to do one of several missions in the order you choose, whereas past the halfway point you only have one mission. And perhaps certain areas sre closed off for whatever reason.
I highly doubt they'd scrap the entire world map for half the game and throw you in a narrow hallway.
I mean, we do know you get access to the airship late-ish in the game. Perhaps roads start getting military roadblocks in tye middle of the game, so you require the flying car to get around them? We simply don't know what he means by linear yet.
Linear like FFXIII is terrible.
But other FFs have done linear and not just be tunnel after tunnel.
ALl you are jumping to conclusions on the word "linear." The old demo area could be part of that linear part of the map. Linear can be walk in a straight line or just more direction. Its unrealistic to expect this game to be like Skyrim where at all times you can go anywhere you want.
I also don't think all "linearity" is bad. There are times in even most open world games where I just want to get moving on with the story and not need to explore huge areas. Not defending the game, but at this point we know nothing aside the word "linear"
Additional post-Season Pass content is being considered, They would charge for it

FFXV Season/Year 2, Please Look Forward To It.
Well what do you expect, 10 years in the making cost alot of $$$ to do
Whats the point of a season pass if it doesnt cover all DLC
they seriously need to just stop talking about this game till it releases every new bit of anything makes it worse and worse.
I know people will still buy it, but is anybody else getting turned off by all this hoopla? Maybe I just never paid attention to all of the promotion and stuff with any other previous games, but I just get the feeling this is building up to be a big disappointment once the game actually comes out.
ff15 will be the biggest disappointment of the decade. They should have keep as tight lipped about it as possible, I mean like you said people are going to gobble this bullshit up and will buy it anyway but everything since the troll release date extravaganza event they had has made me really question this game and wtf is going on at square.
I haven't pre-ordered yet, still on the waiting list for that Ultimate Collector's Edition, because I am a sucker for useless extra garbage.
Honestly the main reason I like final fantasys is I generally find the story enjoyable. The only story I didn't really like was 12 and for me there was too much to do that it pulled back from the main story. As long as the story is decent I should be happy.
Yes I know I'm in the minority on 12. I'll probably go again when the izjs comes out and try not to get bogged down by side content.
I never got into 12 either, but mainly because I was addicted to FFXI at the time and no other game could hold my attention long enough.
