I agree that it's not really needed for this game, but it bothers a lot of people.

That said, the frame pacing issues that have been pointed out since the earlier demos are still a problem, and definitely noticeable when they come into play.

does the 8GB patch need to be downloaded and installed before the game will actually load up? considering flying home on my lunch to pop the disc in and get it downloading so it'll be ready when i get out of work this evening, but if it isn't required i don't wanna spend the effort, lol.

A game afaik will never not work if you don't have a patch

You just won't be able to use network features, and miss some bug fixing etc until the patch is installed
