Lost Odyssey will be a pain to get a hold of, but if you have access to a 360, you can buy Vesperia on Xbox Live for like $15.
I dunno, I found Lost Odyssey pretty easy.
Ranted to someone that they really needed to play it.
..Ended up getting them a 360 with those for Christmas.
Maybe I am missing something. I know ff13 gets a fuckton of hate, but didn't it also give them a shitton of money?
I feel like I don't understand what is up with SE's money objectives. Like Correction said, TR also made them a shitton and they acted like it broke their bank. FFXI is still making them money (not a lot but still a profit), FFXIV seems to be doing pretty fucking strong considering how hard it is to make it in the mmo market. They are publishing an insane amount of big US games in Japan (Diablo III, Call of Duty, etc.).
Where the fuck is all this money going?
Maybe I am projecting since I mentioned this a lot in the past. But are we finally seeing the breaking point of never raising the prices on video games? They have stay the same for what? 25~ years now?
More statistics should start with this line. Honestly I didn't like the characters, which is why I was turned off by the game. But I've been watching a friend play through it who's good at playing the system and its pretty interesting. At least the character develop and don't stay face palm worthy.
Prices for video games are actually lower now than some were in the 90's. That is interesting to think about. Pretty sure I paid 80 bucks after saving all of my money for a year for Sonic and Knuckles when I was a kid.
FF13 sold a lot of copies, but SquareEnix spent a ridiculous amount of money developing it. I don't recall seeing information about the actual costs, but it was in development for many years along with developing a useless engine and MMO. Manhours for development aren't cheap and three to five years doing that adds up. If you took a look at the investor reports over the past 10 years, you might see what was going on, but corporate accounting isn't something I understand. Poor development practices and expectations are close to home, though.
No, the gaming media and public made it seem like they acted like it broke the bank. The report was an explanation of why they made less than they thought they would and part of the reason was that their sales expectations for Tomb Raider were too high.
Remembering, of course, that they had to develop the game twice. It is certainly making money, but as mentioned above, they'd spent a lot of money getting to that point.
Which sell much less in Japan than in the US.
To repay the costs of development mistakes they've made over the past ten years.
No, SquareEnix has had poor development practices for a decade, which has cost then a great deal of money. The ballooning cost of game development is something that needs to be managed, but a lot of the talk is exaggerated and is about making even more money than is already made, not making enough money to stay afloat.
I paid £54.99 for my S&K cart!!!! (translates to $88 today). I made a ton of sacrifices and sold random misc things for that kind of money as a kid.
Brand new releases for PS3/PS4 games here cost £49.99-£59.99 today
I do not think it has gotten cheaper at all, unless you buy it on release day/month. The prices tumbles quickly, that's for sure. My friend paid £44.99 for his FFXIII, I paid a staggering £8 1 odd year after lol
Headcount. They employ world class musicians, artists, creative directors and programming teams on three continents, and it seems their management structure is extremely sludgy, where often your highest paid employees that used to solve the hardest problems are now busy in oversight, middle-management roles. That creates a ton of waste. In addition those Visual Works trailers for games like Hitman and Kingdom Hearts 3 and the last few Versus/XV target renders were a couple of million each. SE is an extremely expensive company.
Also, video game prices have definitely been going up steadily since the 360/PS3 generation, they've just taken the forms of Season Passes, random useless bits of cloth/plastic/metal in the box and on-disc DLC. Gamers now routinely spend over a hundred bucks per game. SE games are no exception. Early adopters are big spenders, while the rest of us wait for the $7.49 steam sale.
Demo of XV is coming with the copy of FF Type-0 HD on March 17th
Need titled changed to HOLY SHIT THERE'S ACTUALLY NEWS.
So based on a super rigorous analysis of SquareEnix, Type-0 HD will release in English in the fall of 2015. FFXV will then release in the fall of 2016! Ten years from announcement to release.
I was already picking up Type-0, but I wonder why they bundled a demo in with it. I mean, obviously they want to exploit people's desire for XV to make some more money, but it seems like a demo on the stores would be better in the long run.
How are you getting Fall from March?
But seriously they just guaranteed Type 0 will sell like crazy. Was planning to buy anyway.
It was a joke about how SquareEnix seems to release a year after the demo and release the English version six to eight months after the Japanese.
So a TGS announcement means another half year from that date for an English release. Then a year from that date for the XV release!
I thought the Type-0 VA was already done (as well add the translation), so there is potential for this to be a worldwide release? I try not to be optimistic about these things.
Except that date is for the English version...which is why I am confusedAlso the 6 month worldwide delay days are gone.
PS. The original Game Informer post that reported this has been removed. Take that as you will.
LOL kotaku i know but,

At bottom of the story
" UPDATE - Game Informer has pulled the story."
Hah. Announcement I read made no indication of region but said it was from a TGS article. Assumed that it was an announcement for a JP release and I now look like an idiot.
And yes, six month delays are gone, for the most part. I was thinking about the FF12 gap, as well as the shorter (but still present) gaps between FF13/-2/LR (1-3 months), FFX/-2 HD (3 months), Bravely Default (2 months), Theatrhythm (5 months), Curtain Call (4 months), KH 1.5 Remix (6 months), and KH 2.5 Remix (2 months). Explorers has a JP release date with no NA/EU. Probably other ones that I'm not recalling. Either way, it was just a jab at their long development cycles and disinterest in releasing games at the same time worldwide. I get why they would do it that way, but I'm not going to get my hopes up for a worldwide release until they actually say it, lol.
