So going back and reading my original post, I see I wasn't clear on what I hate most about modern anime. While the cute shit annoys me, it's that ecchi crap involving little girls. Where's the little girl vagina bulge in FF?

FF going that route is what would make me drop FF

FFT, Vagrant Stories, FF12 were as good as any of the rpgs of its time, gameplay and content wise.

I honestly fail to see your point how SE can't do gameplay. They can, they have, and they've been amazing.
The Breath of Fire series would like to have a word with you. Legend of Dragoon gameplay was also way more engaging than any of the Final Fantasies for it's time, Legend of Legaia as well. I'd also put Lunar SSS in that category. Countless other RPGs were also objectively "better" than FFs, but didn't have the absolute massive marketing budget that FF games had from 7 onward. You're putting on some serious nostalgia goggles if you think only Valkyrie Profile and Star Ocean 2 are the only 2 RPGs that can hold a candle to FFs.

EDIT: Saw that you actually said SE rpgs, instead of FFs, so removed Chrono Trigger from the list. The only thing I wouldn't argue against that SE rpgs did better than most was soundtracks (though Breath of Fire soundtracks still have most FFs beaten). At least up until around FF9.

I've got a rather unpopular opinion but Legend of the Dragoon was shit. All its combat was is quick time events to perform the follow up attack so your attacks actually were meaningful. The story wasn't that great and terribly drawn out to the point where I couldn't get past disk 2.

I honestly thought you'd give me some legitimate answers, instead got typical opinionated, I-hate-whatever's-popular-at-the-time answer.

Really, had you say Valkyrie Profile, Star Ocean, Tales Of, I'd understand. But to lists series such as Breath of Fire, Legend of Dragoon, and Legaia as series with better gameplay? That's honestly a laughably bad list of games with better gameplay lmao. Not only were they all generic turn-based-battle system games, products of their time, not one of those games/series innovated or did anything better than any FF/SE RPgs of the time.

If you seriously had more fun actually PLAYING Breath of Fires, Legends of Dragoon, and Legaia, over SE games of that period such as Vagrant Story, FFT, Xenogears, FF12... well, that's just, like, your opinion man. But I'd feel sorry for you for having such terrible taste in gaming.

No I agree, the depth behind Breath of Fire 2's Shaman system, building your own town, Breath of Fire 3's Master system, and again building your own town (though with faeries), also the fishing system in Breath of Fire 3 was pretty unique. Legend of Legaia's systems were also incredibly deep and thorough. Those things have absolutely nothing on the simplistic systems of FF6 and 7, and the easily abused system of 8. Elcura pointed out Parasite Eve as well, also Xenogears would have been on my list had I remembered it. Breath of Fire 2 and 3 are way better RPGs because they actually allow you to roleplay, whereas FF6 and beyond (I can't with confidence say anything about the ones before then cause it's been so long/haven't played, though I know FF1 allows you to choose your role, so there's that) place you in a role and you are forced to play it a certain way. That can be done well, but I don't think the Final Fantasies did it very well. They were mediocre at it at best.

I also love how you claimed I gave an opinionated answer about hating whatever is popular, as if Breath of Fire is unpopular, and then turned around and did the exact same fucking thing. Watch me reply to you with the exact same reasoning as the gist of your post.

Wow. Look at that, I said the exact same thing as you and it literally means nothing because you also didn't give any fucking legitimate answers you twat.

I will concede that I put Legend of Dragoon on there because of my personal taste, as it really doesn't do anything spectacular. The battle system is still more fun than any of the FF games though, maybe not X-2.

I'm with you on it for the most part.

Sad about disc 2 though. What I will say is that LoD's story, at least for me, got TREMENDOUSLY better near the end of disc 3 and disc 4.

    You mayyad as fuck lmao.

It's ok, you were acting like the typical elitist weaboo, listed a bunch of generic rpgs that supposedly had superior gameplay to SE/FF games, claim SE can't do gameplay, then you got called out on your bullshit, as if BoF, LoD, and LoG were some niche rpg none of us had played back in the day. Then you proceed to backtrack after I listed a bunch of SE-made games that had critically acclaimed gameplay of the time.

We did play those RPGs, and they were fucking inferior to any SE products at the time.

Gameplay/content wise, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, FFT, Front Mission 3, Legend of Mana, Seiken Densetsu 3, Bahamut Lagoon, FF6, Chrono Trigger >>> any BoF of the time, Legend of Dragoon, Legaia. If you disagree, you are a weaboo and should be ashamed of your taste in gaming.

This is coming from someone who has BoF2 in his top 10 favourite RPGs.

Take the L, and move on.

BoF3 stands up to FF if you ask me, the rest of the series... not so much. Legaia was GDLK as well (mechanically anyway, the production values weren't as good as they could have been). Aside from that, get that nonsense outta here. FF has always been upper echelon until recently though.

Seriously, he's literally just making shit up to sidestep my points. I don't even know where he got the weeaboo shit, especially since he's defending FF which are japanese games. He has some serious nostalgia goggles on as well.

@Ayn: Yeah like I said, LoD is a personal thing, so I probably shouldn't have included it on that list, but yeah the story got way better towards the end. It did start out pretty weak though.

I feel the same way, I'm so lost reading these last few posts.

Is this about good games? Cause I mean on one hand the dude that says FF games have good gameplay then listed games with better gameplay but then some games count if they are SE RPGs and then some don't?

The fuck is happening? Classic BG confidence game.

Oh, nothing wrong with that. I can see where both of you were coming from. My big beef with LoD was that it was touted as a Final Fantasy killer, and if you look at the sheer amount of resources dumped into the game it was. . rather overwhelming. At least, that's how I felt going through the first few discs, then the last disc happened and I was like "Oh."

But man, the dubbing in that game. Classic.

    "DOUBLE SLASH."

I dunno when this turned into a "This RPG of the 90's was better then THIS one!"-athon, but no one even mentions poor Suikoden? ; ; Suikoden 2 was fantastic

also Legend of Dragoon was bad and you should feel bad for liking it, I bought it, I finished it, because I can't NOT finish a game I start no matter how bad it is.

In regards to LoD, you are in the smallest minority in the history of minorities.

Everyone loves Suikoden, because it is Tom Brady caliber GOAT.
