Watching the car video, I got these Ultima 6 vibes in that, for its time, that game had so much shit to do, outside of the main quest, with all sorts of things tucked away for those that took the time to fully explore the environments. If FF15 does the same, with its world, it's going to be one hell of a ride.

I'm wondering how big a role the Regalia plays in the whole adventure. I'm totally digging the FF15 road trip experience because it really does instill a sense of adventure.. but i'm also acutely aware that FF has always been plot-driven, so some sections of the story (like the attack on altissia we saw in the trailer) would no doubt be a different experience

well since the page ate my post from yesterday. during the percentages video there was a giant snake in the demo area. Is that in the demo or not? and i forgot what else i posted.

Not in the demo. The only mobs it had were:

Those pig/buffalo things
Wolves/dog things
Goblins
That peculiar unicorn that kept running away
Behemoth
Imperials
And the last update added Catoblepas

I'm sure the mobs I gave vague names to have specific ff-geared names but I don't remember them at the moment. But yeah, I think that was it. I don't remember anything else being fightable, albeit I have a vague memory of some wild chocobos you couldn't really interact with.

According to the Dualshockers FFXV's world could be rough 10 times the size of GTA5. Doesn't mean its all accessible or interesting given the road trip concept that drives the progression of the game. Odds are a lot is just eye candy with points of interest dotted along roads until you get to "hub" areas like the demo area. Still even if its just that its pretty ambitious jump from the hallways of 13.

I see map comparisons and my concern immediately jumps to overcompensating with size rather than attention to detail. Which arguably make an open world game.

That or there's simply not that much to do.

Reminds me of people who ragged on XIV zone sizes using XI as a reference. Cut zones like Meriphitaud in half and nobody would've noticed the difference. So, yeah, it's not about size, it's what's done with what's given.

I'm all for the map being huge. But like others have stated, as long as there's shit to do and there's a point to it. I also hope there aren't any "have to arrive at this town within this time or you miss a mission/quest/etc" shit. That kind of stuff always annoys me

Its most likely a lot of hub areas with a majority of the mountains being cut of by cliffs and rivers and such.. unless they actually let you fly an airship in this one as well and you can go anywhere.. then color me impressed

I managed to kill that unicorn that kept running away, took damn near forever but i did it.

Yes, but I don't recommend it because it takes forever.

In regards to FFXV's map, reminds me of when MGSV was showed off. That map is pretty massive too.
