Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed this. Was very impressed by those actors who dabbled a bit in foreign languages, and Kevin Bacon was amazing. I hated all the stills that they released before the movie, but seeing those instances in context I was pleasantly surprised. Almost, if not as good, as X2.

Great movie. Magneto was boss like everyone said. But so was Azazel. My favorite fight scenes were the ones where he was teleporting all over the place. Magneto's final kill was epic though. As was the cameo. Totally didn't except that.

I wouldn't mind seeing a sequel to this prequel, since a lot of the surviving mutants at the end weren't in the trilogy.

I went in thinking this movie looked like shit, walked out rather surprised, it was really fucking good. McCovey was a fantastic Charles Xavier. Everyone should go watch this movie if you in any shape or form like the X-Men.

This really felt like another Marvel movie that was 30 minutes too short. I don't understand why they cut the character development for everyone other than the main two or three characters out, leaving me more worried that they'd kill Azazel than anyone on the X-men team. And also
    Spoiler: show
good job building up Kevin Bacon charging on a fucking nuke for 20 minutes, then going out like a chump without even exploding. Fucking bullshit. I seriously felt robbed of a good fight, moreso than Thor vs. the Destroyer.

Ya my friends and I talked about that. Seriously Marvel and all action movies need to bring in Asian Kung Fu choreographers and do these final battles of superheroes some justice.

Now that you bring that up, something I was thinking about afterwards:

    Spoiler: show
So Shaw can absorb kinetic energy and store it as physical strength to use however he pleases. We saw him get blown up, punched, shot at, etc and he just stored it up and returned it. So, how does Magneto send a coin through his head to kill him. Shouldn't that just have been chalked up to more potential energy to be stored?

I need to stop paying so much attention to super hero movies and turn my brain off ._.

Seeing as the coin probably passed right through the guy's brain that might have had a little something to do with it. Don't care what your power is if you get your brain sliced right down the middle the whole functioning thing is going to be kind of hard.

    Not to mention...

    Spoiler: show
Shaw needs to actively absorb the energy. It doesn't happen automatically. Xavier was holding him still so I bet even Havoc could've killed him with his energy blasts.

Ah, I forgot Xavier had froze him in place. I guess that could explain it.

Obviously. But I just assumed he could absorb whatever was thrown at him automatically. Coin through the head wouldn't be anymore lethal than the dozens of bullets, grenade, Havok's beam, or rocket launcher thrown at him and absorbed.

if they went with his comics, he can absorb energy, but it isn't limitless. He can take damage from physical blows as well as powerful enough energy attacks like Cyclops optic blasts. He also can regenerate his health and strength with his energy reserves, so it is possible they may bring him back as a villain by saying he slowly healed after absorbing all that nuclear power.

Yeah he did survive in the comics when his son used his mutant power to rip his heart out if I remember right in order to take over the Hellfire Club.

forgive me for my lack of comic book knowledge, but how accurate was this movie to the real story?

I've seen that version too and than the finished version. Tbh atleast I got some laughs from the unfinished version. When I seen the finished product on HBO it dint do anything for me, still a terrible movie.

Just seen X-Men Orgins: Magneto, was pretty good.

Also no one in theater laughed at the Magneto Mystique/Rebecca Romijn cameo when she was in bed

the story isn't anything like the comics. the characters motivations are fairly similar however.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

Just got back, fucking loved the movie. Was a nice surprise because I felt the last few x-men movies were a let down. also quoting for mother fucking truth:

    Great movie, but few criticisms:

    Spoiler: show
I wish they'd cut some extraneous characters out to give some more screen-time to developing relationships with the supporting cast. It made sense though since they needed 1 guy to die to inspire the kids to keep going (Darwin) and then another to join the Autobots to demonstrate the 'lines being drawn' at this tumultuous period in 'mutant history'/civil rights movement. The movie had the tough task of packing in all these themes, and characters and blah blah into like 1.5-2 hours? So I won't knock it unreasonably like some of the jackass hyper-intellectuals at the big newsrags but at the same time, I felt like there's been ensemble pieces that have been able to do the balancing act much better. That said, it's a comic book movie still and when I left the theater I felt like I had seen an actual X-Men movie for once. It felt like an episode of the early 90s cartoon before it got bastardized (new voices/animation/crap stories).

Loved the cameos. The Yellow costumes were cool actually, which is saying something because in the trailers I though Magnetos costume that we only see the back of, would be awesome. Then at the end, you see him standing there, and it looks like a size too big/doesn't emphasize his physique at all. He looks like a magician in a cape with a helmet on. Tacky! Then I remember, this is the 60s, and that specific design is accurate I believe. Still, I wanted it to be a bit more V-shaped in the torso. I bet Michael Fassbender was like (you've made me look cool this whole time only to turn me into a retarded magician at the end). And that last line? Even HE didn't like hearing it. It would read much cooler in a comic book, but the effect is unintentionally funny in the film.

The parts in the beginning with Fassbender getting revenge on the Nazis is the best part of the movie. Especially in Argentina, where he manipulates the knife. Very creative usage of the characters abilities. He and McAvoy were perfect. Both of them are legit actors too so it's unsurprising. Fassbender is going to be in the Alien spinoff-prequel (exists in same universe, before first movie so not a prequel technically). And he's done some pretty good work already (I think there's a movie he did called 'Control' - its on Netflix, about the IRA, true story, etc. good). He's also in another movie called 'Fish Tank' which is also on Netflix and he's good in that too. He totally understood the character.

All in all, a good movie. I wish somehow it'd be a HBO series with the same production values! That would be the only way to do it justice. I feel like we were seeing highlights from a TV series compressed into a film.

My husband and I went to see this movie last night, really quite good. It finally inspired me to begin reading the comics (good luck, right? ^^; ). I found some "Chronological X-Men" torrents on Demonoid, which seemed like a good place to start. We kept debating on how this movie would tie in to the other movies, but it's supposed to be a complete reboot, yes? I hope any future X-Men movies continue to follow the example of this one, but hopefully with a bit better effects ^^; Beast looked so terrible...
