Well, it's true regarding Chris Claremont. That guy will change anything to get it back to the stupid shit he likes to write about.

I had high hopes because I loved Kick Ass (and his other movies, but Kick Ass being the comic book one), but it's not sounding great. I really liked Layer Cake, and he produced Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels, and Snatch. Granted those are a very different kind of movie, but yeah, was definitely hoping for something awesome, so we'll see.

Now, I don't read comic books, ever really, Most of my comic book knowledge comes from hours of reading wikias but to my understanding, so this could be incorrect, but don't things get retconned a lot, especially when new authors take over?

also origins do change too, though they can't be called "retcons", more like "new information that noone has ever known about before now!"

Things are generally retconned when they don't make sense. However, a lot of the X-Men in the movie have pretty definitive origins, by this point. The only really large retcon in X-Men is the death of Jean Grey as the Phoenix and her "resurrection." However, most origins are generally accepted to be true at this point. When they try and change things(see Marvel trying to change Professor X's origin in 2010), no one acknowledges it as true. Hope that clears it up a bit.

What possessed them to put Azazel in this movie? He appeared in all of four issues and was never seen again.

They could have at least chosen Beak, which, alongside Angel, would have been funny.

And, please, one more story tease?
It’s got a lot of teenage angst. The Twilight girls will like it.

The nerd in me is sitting in a dark room, listening to Dashboard Confessional, and crying about this.

I'm hoping that the twilight thing was said in jest/sarcastically. That definitely would make more sense to me.

"You look at the kind of main, defining characteristics of Professor X, of Charlie Boy, and you go, 'Alright, he's selfless. He's a saint. He's sexless, it seems. He's egoless. He's all about other people. He's all about bettering the world and mutantkind and humankind.' And so you kind of try and flip that on its head. You don't make him an evil person, or anything like that, but you make him ego-driven, women-chasing, he likes a good drink. He's not the reluctant leader that you kind of want all heroes to be. He actually kind of wants to be in charge, you know what I mean? And all of those things, just to kind of show a journey. So by the end of the movie he's some way towards becoming Patrick Stewart, rather than just having the same guy at the beginning."

To be fair, in the comics recently they have been retconning Professor X to be less "selfless" from his earlier years. Mainly about the 3rd Summers child and his team that was trained by Moira. He seems to have been more controlling than the original comics portrayed.

I'm on the fence about the "enrichment" of Xavier's history. On the one hand, making him a touch militant, diabolical, and scheming adds a bit of humanity to him.

On the other hand, it always made sense to me that the world's most powerful psychic would be the one person on the planet who could understand why we shouldn't be dicks to each other, and lived as the example.

So, like I said, on the fence about it.

Shoulda been Tom Hardy as Xavier.

I mean, he played a young Picard in Star Trek: Nemesis... it'd be a perfect fit.

As a young bald xavier, I agree, Tom Hardy would do a good job.
