    $400 VZW credit

I signed up for verizon wireless on the 7th of Jan via amazonwireless and got a droid 2 global.

On Tuesday I called verizon to cancel the service because I decided I will wait on the HTC Thunderbolt to sign up. The next day I changed my mind after using my ATT device(galaxy s captivate) for a few hours. They told me my account "went on a hiatus" and wasn't fully cancelled and they reversed it.

Today I get an email saying my bill is ready(I already paid my first bill on the 14th, $118). The email states my balance due is 303 dollars. Obviously I'm like wtf. So I go on the website and I see this:

I called them and asked what was up and the girl told me I had a 700 dollar credit and they charged an ETF of 350 dollars. Apparently even if you cancel when you are not subject to an ETF it goes on your account and they credit it back to you. I don't understand why the credit was for 700 and not for 350.

She put me on hold for a few minutes and came back saying that she could not correct the billing error. I asked her what I needed to do about it and she said nothing. I then told her "obviously they aren't going to leave it like this" and she insisted that there was nothing to be done and informed me that with my current rate plan I will be good for 6 months.

This ever happen to any of you, did it backfire? Needless to say I love VZW right now.

I have a feeling your next bill will be for $400 or so, and when you call to complain they will simply say the previous person you talked to was wrong, so sorry.

If there is one thing I have learned about cell phone companies.. they will always figure out when there is a billing issue in your favor. Don't expect to get free service off that if it really was an error.

Part of the Amazon deal may have been them fronting some the money to Verizon for the new phone/service. Youll end up having to pay the difference, and maybe more, somewhere ... to either Amazon or Verizon.

My bank accidentally gave me nearly $2,000 through two separate errors within like two weeks of each other. It took soooooooooooooo much time and effort to convince them to take their money back, especially on the second occasion (which was like $1,200). I had to prove to them that they made a mistake. They didn't even believe me at first and their records even supported their argument that they hadn't made a mistake and that the 1,200 dollars were mine).

It's a good thing you insisted that they take the money back.

I'd rather they just take the money back immediately than realize their error three weeks later after I already spent the money. Plus it felt like stealing, which I wouldn't be okay with. But mainly, I was paranoid about waking up one day with a -$1000 dollar balance or something.

Yeah better now than later, they WOULD have found it sooner or later.

woozie actually did not intelligent thing. check out "unjust enrichment" - always pursue these things and give the money back if it's at all traceable. it's not only stupid to keep the money, it's possibly illegal. I work in a job where I see this happening and believe me, you don't want to be the guy who took $1000 out because he was afraid the bank would fix it first.

unfortunately, that old "bank error in your favor" monopoly card is lying to you not so sure how it works with cell phone bills though.

So it seems bg wisdom dictates this is going to bite me in the ass somehow. I suppose I will put the would-be cost of service away in a piggy bank and hope for a miracle.

Yea, thats probably the best bet. Just put the monthly payments away, and do not touch them for a few months.

When verizon does finally catch their mistake, MAKE SURE they do not charge you any bullshit late fees. Verizon loves their made up late fees (well, at least for internet they did)
