Although it seems like the line between sprain and tear is blurry and could be a semantics discussion.

a sprain and tear are the same thing. there are 3-6 grades of sprains: 1 (+/-1) - usually a stretch or minor tear. 2 (+/-2) - significant tear, sometimes requires surgery to be functional again. 3 (+/-3) - generally a complete rupture.
a second degree MCL sprain will keep someone out 4+ weeks most of the time, if not longer (as it usually accompanies other ligament damage). a 3rd degree is a complete rupture, very rarely occurs with the MCL unless the PCL/ACL are completely ruptured as well.
They had a doctor on the radio during my lunch break and he said that a grade 1 shouldn't have cost him much more than a series, if any time at all. Also a sprain and tear are not the same, a sprain is just a stretching of the ligaments and a tear is an actual tear in the ligaments.
you are an idiot. that information is complete bullshit.
even the most basic definition says sprain/tear are the same thing.

moreA sprain (from Middle French espraindre - to wring) is an injury to ligaments that is caused by being stretched beyond their normal capacity and possibly torn. A muscular tear caused in the same manner is referred to as a strain. In cases where either ligament or muscle tissue is torn, immobilization and surgical repair may be necessary. Ligaments are tough, fibrous tissues that connect bone to bone across the joints. Sprains can occur in any joint but are most common in the ankle

People sure are ravenous to prove Cutler's injury is overstated. Is it too soon for the "Gabrielle Giffords would have finished that game!" jokes to start rolling?
Sounds to me like some sprains are tears, some are just over-stretching - would depend on the degree to which it was stretched.A sprain (from Middle French espraindre - to wring) is an injury to ligaments that is caused by being stretched beyond their normal capacity and possibly torn.
what i do know is no amount of soap would've washed that look off his face
Oh man, Archie is firing with both barrels today...
Diam, why you letting them troll you?

Cuz he's a dumb football fan.
I'm surprised people are giving NFL players any credibility for shit they said in TWEETS. Oh man, what's next, Deion Sanders talking trash on his myspace?
edit b/c no one cares about anonymous backstories: I can empathize with Cutler's situation.
a lot of people actually don't know how serious a knee injury like that is - listening to gottleib on the way home this afternoon confirmed that for me.
either way, still not giving up on Cutler, as 'terrible' as he and his team are, they were still only a few plays away from getting to the supa bowl this season. looking forward to next year.
and it is all because i bought an eric legrand keep chopping 52 shirt
you're welcome.
