Auto Translate Terms: What Could Be Useful/What Should Go?

It's been noted that Square hasn't implemented many new auto-translate terms with this last year of updates. Recently Square's twitter twats acknowledged this citing limits on the amount of terms they can hold, and so they will look into what could be changed or taken out. But nuts to their judgment about an auto-translate terms worth. Which new auto-translate terms do you think would be most useful to have and which do you think you could communicate without.

Remember the purpose of the auto-translate terms are for communicating with foreign players. It's easy to forget that and think of it as a lazy phrase machine to save you lots of typing with native speaking friends.

Personally my first few choices for removal would be things like [bastard sword] and a few other choice phrases just so no one will have to suffer forum mock-auto-translate ever again. But that's my bias... What do you think?

I still think a lot of those are useful, but there are seriously a weird amount of Chocobo Raising terms. They should all just be removed.

Affection, Bore, Burrow, Care, Care Schedule, Courser, Destrier, Discernment, Endurance, Energy, Jennet, Kamp Kweh, Matchmaking, Mental, Outing, Owner, Palfry, Plan Length, Receptivity, Retirement, Rounsey, Stamina.

Nearly all of the "titles" terms that refer to NPCs could be done away with. The only useful ones deal with player ranks within the game (amateur, adept, etc.) Things like Boss, Mega Boss, and Last Boss are useful though.

Take Care (It doesn't even translate properly since they use it in the "look out for X" sense)

This has bothered me for a while. "Take care" is a bad English translation. "Take care" should be translated as "Be careful" and "Take care" in English can be left and translated in JP as "So long and well wishes" or something.

"Pull back" is also ambiguous, does it mean pulling an enemy or is it a warning to move? If it's the latter then a "Be careful" phrase would be better.

"Layer Area" I think this is supposed to mean like a floor or layer of a map? This could be better translated as well and it would get more use.

I hate all of the "I" phrases. There's so many of them, it takes forever to scroll to the one you want. In the time it takes you to scroll to "I need some time to put together my answer.", you could have just given your answer.

"Helldive" (Hello!) and "Confederate Icon" (Congratulations!) need to go.

"Good Morning!" and "Good Evening!" exist, but not "Good Afternoon!"

Make sure all monster families are in there. I don't remember which it was exactly, but a couple weeks ago I was surprised to find a pretty common one missing. On closer inspection, a bunch turned out to not be in auto-translate at all.

all the new zones need to be added. while we are fixing things could the new ish (lot of blu stuff was goes back to lv75) spells be put into order with the auto sort instead of just dumped at the bottem? yeah i know i could move them manually but.... if you aren't going to sort stuff any more then get rid of the button.

Helldive is the name of a blu spell so wouldnt be removed.

Hankaku/Zenkaku Key is a key on a japanese keyboard I think

I think we all can list many auto-trans items that just don't need to be there. A couple things to be added and a suggestion though-

1. Make sure all J/As are in auto-trans. I hate not having Mana Wall, etc.
2. All monster families. What good is the Magian Trial search function if you can list "Undead" but not the more specific "Skeletons" when that is really your trial?

I also really, really hate having to add a piece of gear into my auto-trans every time I want it, rather than it saving it. If I want to bazaar comment some Blessed Mitts +1, store it in some way (I don't understand these things, but it seems like you should be able to store it client side relatively easy) so I don't have to do it every time.

Finally, damn PS2 users. If the reason NOT to do these things are the limitations of the PS2, then stop giving the shinies to them. I understand PS2 usage is more prevalent in Japan than in US where most of us use PCs so this isn't going to happen, but when are they going to be sick of limiting their own game and ideas because of a gaming console that is over 10 years old? I know I know- its been said a million times. But for God's sake wake up.

It's simple: just stop supporting PS2.
Give PS2 users the game for a system of their choice (360/ps3/pc) free of charge and stop supporting the PS2. its about time the game moved on.

I highly doubt PS2 ffxi players don't have one of the other platforms to play the game on.

and for translate: lv75+ weaponskills, JAs and spells. and Widescan.

I've always wondered why NA use Auto-translate as a lazy way to type, and JP's hardly use it at all, especially for it's intended purposes. See an NA shout for something, buy, sell, or LFG/LFM, the NA's shout will be 80% + Auto-trans, the JP Shout might have 1 auto-trans in it, mostly none.

You can save the term in a macro, which can be used to set a /seacom. I don't think it's possible to set a bazaar comment with it, unfortunately.
